Interesting review and comparison of the Maxon, original Ibanez and new Ibanez pedals here.Wow, $300, should never have sold my old AD-9. None of my new digital delays have any smoothness or warmth. Do you guys agree with the article above? Greg |

I consider myself lucky in that I've owned an Original~Ibanez (Maxon) AD-9 for many years and am using it with my present setup! Never had any problems with it, although it's been out of use for quite a few years in between! Back when I was using it, guys used to tell me the newer digital~delays were cleaner, but; once again tastes are changing in some instances! If memory serves me, I think my Original AD-9 was under $100 new! Hey John, I can remember having an old Ibanez too and I was just the opposite of most guys. I always wanted a longer delay and a cleaner repeat. I was like the guys in the article I opened mine up and dang near ruined it trying to get a longer delay time out of it luckily I had a buddy at Skip's Music in Sacramento that was an electronice wiz and he fixed it up for me and showed me how to adjust it so that I didn't mess it up any more. That was in 81 then in 82/early 83 someone turned me on to a Roland digital delay the SDE-1000 and I was in hog heaven. It had over 1 second of delay plus the best true stereo chorus that I've ever heard. Bob

To my tangled way of thinking, a delay over 300ms puts you out in Hickory Holler somewhere for a traditional Country Song! I run my Delay Time at 1:30 on the Ibanez with no repeats and barely audible at approx. 8:45, blended with my Reverb. ------------------ “Big John” a.k.a. {Keoni Nui} Current Equipment |

I had one of the original Ibanez AD9's. Never liked it and sold it to another steeler and it turned out he didn't like it either. He sold it to a lead guitar player and he didn't like it and sold it to someone else. I lost track of it after that. After I sold the AD9, I bought an Ibanez DM1000 rack type delay and was in "hog heaven". The old analog delay's used "bucket brigade" IC chips and they tended to not be "hi fidelity". |

I have the AD–9 and an RV-3, but; I still prefer the AD-9 with the Twin~Reverb Custom™ 15” on-board Spring~Reverb! I guess it's just a matter of preferrence and simplicity! (or maybe I'm just an ignorant die~hard!) ------------------ “Big John” a.k.a. {Keoni Nui} Current Equipment [This message was edited by John Bechtel on 29 July 2006 at 11:36 PM.] |

I just ordered the Boss DD-20 and will try it out. Since the last good delay I used was the original Boss AD-9 which didn't have true bypass, the DD-20 will be better in that regard. If I can't get a good analog like delay out of it I'll swap it out for the Maxon and report the results here. Greg |
