Mackie, Peavey, and Carvin among others are selling lightweight PA cabinets made out of molded plastic with a neodymium speaker and a horn in them - all 8 ohms, from what I can see. Is there ANYWHERE to buy empty, molded, non-horny plastic cabinets, to mount either 12" or 15" 4-ohm speakers? I have done the obvious Googling. It seems like overkill to buy some new ones, sell the speakers and remove the horns just to get the cabinets - is this stuff simply too new yet to have ohm choices available?

David.

I think the actual molding process is a pretty expensive and specialized for each brand. I bet it would be near impossible, at least today, to find generic or branded, unloaded plastic cabinets.

You might be able to find some with the speakers blown.

Did you try contacting the manufacture of the specific cabinet you would like and ask if they sell the cabinet unloaded? They may also sell them as a service part replacement. Sometimes you get lucky, other times you don't.

Check auto and truck sound system specialty shops; I think I have seen some at one in Fullerton. In fact, I'll shoot by there this week and check for you.

Hey, Kevin, do you know a parts number for the molded, Dayton speaker cabinets? (I see you're in Ohio too) I looked on the Parts Express page for Dayton, and the only cabs they have listed are MDF particleboard.

I want to get a speaker from them anyway to make the lightest possible, medium-volume guitar cab:

David ;

I checked my new Parts Express catalog and the Dayton 12 and 15 cabinets are still in there, but the unloaded options shown in the previous catalog are gone so they must have been deleted . You might want to call their order desk to see if they still have any left .
