Hi, could anyone please help? I've just aquired a session 500 mark 4 (thinking of fitting lemay/burr brown upgrade). What would be the best amp settings? I play a Sheffield twin 10 PSG 9 + 8 with George L p/us, Tommy White on E9th & a PF 1 on C6th and using a peavey pro-fex 2. Best wishes, Dave. UK.

Pre Gain 5 (31/2) Low +12(15) paramid -3(-6) Shift 800
high +6 (-3) Presence-6 (+4) Post gain 5 (5) RV 5 (4)
I had 2 different 500's 1 with B/W & 1 with JBL. These were my settings I used on the amps.

I used a Session 500 for 15 years. Generally, I set the EQ, Low +9, Mid shift at 800Hz and -2 to -3. Both the High and Presence slightly plus (approx +1).

That worked for both a PP Emmons with stock single coil pickups and a Franklin with Lawrence 705 pickups.

This list was done by Peavy at one of the ISGC shows many years ago when the Session 500 was in it's prime. I've posted it several times, but it's always interesting to review it again and see the diversity of settings among different players.

One note, if you set the paramid at zero, not plus or minus, then it's bascially "out of the circuit" and where you set the frequency has no affect.

This is for all the Peavy amps that have the Paramid EQ controls, including the NV112.

That' true Jack. A lot of folks do not realize that. Also many people do not know that whatever you set your mid shift setting to, will determines whether you cut or boost the frequency you have set on the frequency knob.
Most players cut the 800Hz to-4. The rest of the EQ settings are pretty easy to dial in.
My settings on ANY Peavey amp is as follows:
LOW + 8-10
Mid shift - 4-5
Freq. 800 Hz
High + 3-4
Presence + 2-3

This has worked well for years!

Even though I am what you'd call a beginner ---I have found the best sound to my ears is using Jeff Newman selection from the chart above which I saw years ago. I don't like a lot of reverb therefore I set my reverb at 3.
I also run the 3 cord pedal patch hookup which did give a better sound.
But the most noticable difference was to purchase an amp stand from one of our forum members which gets it off the floor by 8 inches and slightly tilts it back. The sound "Throws" better.

Here are the settings that Jeff Newman put in a news letter. I used these when I was playing the 500 and was very happy with the sound.

Pre 3.5, Low -11, Paramid -6, Shift 800, Hi -3, Post 5, Rev 4.

My experience with the 500 was that it was difficult to get set right until I got these settings.

Hi Dave
Your link isn't working. Incidently, for those people on this forum who get the chance to look at Dave's Sheffield steel guitars, I think that mechanically they are the best British pedal steel I've ever seen.

I had a Session 500 many moons ago and it was a real dog. It had an intermittent fault that even Peavey UK couldn't sort out, and the best thing I ever did was to chop it in for a Nashville 400.
