I have had both of these speakers, and I've used both for steel, and I couldn't tell any difference at all. I don't know what the physical differences were, but the sound is really close. Here's a picture of a cab I built for my old Session 400 when it had the EVM15B in it. I have since changed it to an old Black Widow Spiderweb. The EVM was 8 ohm, the BW is 4 ohm like the amp originally had. ------------------ Darvin Willhoite Riva Ridge Recording

That's a nice looking cabinet, Darvin!(Oops, where did it go?) The 15B ("B" for bass) does has a little more bottom end response, but you would never notice it unless you actually use the very bottom end. Most players (probably 95%) don't ever push the speaker forcefully down in that range, so they see (in effect) no difference. Curly Chalker? Yes, he would definitely notice! I had an EV 15B and I couldn't tell it from a 15L. Mine was rated 400 watts, right on the label. Sounded great after Woody Woodell reconed it. They are great sounding speakers. Donny, is your's the "force" series EVM? |

It would make sense that the 15B and the 15L would sound similar ....The "B" is for bass, and the "L" is for Long throw , which would tend to be a bass type speaker ...The 15L's sure sound good for pedal steel .... One of these day's I will build a cabinet with a 15L and a JBL D120 ....Those 2 oughta sound pretty good together ....Add another for stereo !!...Jim |

James, no that's an earlier ("Super-Duty" model) EVM15B. The later Force series was lighter (smaller magnet structure), and was designed to emulate the (IMHO, highly over-rated) JBL's. They're great for lead guitar, but I just never thought they had enough bottom-end for steel.[This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 03 December 2006 at 05:34 AM.] |
