Mine has a 10" Weber California with paper dust cap. With the crossover circuit sending the mids to the Leslie and the highs/lows to the guitar amp speakers, the California seems to give the clearest, punchiest reproduction of mids I've found. I tried several others - Eminence, Mojotone, Jensen reissue...none came close to what I get out of the California in richness of tone or volume. It's also one of the mid-priced Webers and won't bust the piggy bank. With any new speaker, though, you need some break-in time..and that's harder to do in a Leslie since you don't use it all the time.To break mine in, I ran a CDplayer on "repeat" into an amp with the Leslie in the garage, and ran it all weekend (during the day) a couple of times, at medium volume. At about 20 hours the speaker generally starts to "bloom", and gets better over another 10 or so. For the Leslie 16 and Fender Vibratone speakers with a fairly full range and that stay clean are pretty essential. You also generally need decent power handling, especially for a Twin (btw - what do you mean by "6139"?)- I wouldn't use a 25 watt speaker for sure. Impedance is also an issue, and the word I got from several Leslie tech folks was that a 4-ohm speaker was the best and safest match for a wide variety of amps. Also, if you don't have the crossover, find one (a couple companies make them). It makes a huge difference in the sound. Using the Leslie 16 as an extension speaker sounds really weak in comparison to the way the crossover works, plus you also have the speed switch for "ramping" effects. Hope that helps - Jim[This message was edited by Jim Sliff on 15 December 2006 at 11:05 PM.] |

I just upgraded my Leslie 16 with a 10" 8 ohm JBL vintage speaker and it works great. I have another JBL just like it, but needs rebuilt. After the first of the year I am going to call Woody to rebuild it so I can have a spare. There was nothing wrong with the speaker I took out, I just wanted a JBL.------------------ Carter D12, MSA D12, 1956 Rickenbacker D8, Evans FET 500LV, Evans SE200, Peavey Nashville 1000
