golly , my major mistake on the post, there is a good steel player playing for some tent show near kissimee? lakeland? this week-end. heard a little of him at a distance on a private farm while they were running over some things. the guitar player told me the [ aged ] ne: seasoned, steelman played through a sho-bud xmas tree. the guitar man himself [strat]looked to be about 18 years old. it was a surprise to me, that the lad new what that old amp was. [ continued in original post ] sorry, kenny |

Jennings- Who re-built your amp?? I have one I would like to have re-conditioned as close to original as possible. If I could get this done, I would consider throwing my rack system away, and start playing thru the Bud again.------------------ Dino

Ernie C. mentioned that they were one of the best lead guitar amps! I'll have to agress with that. I remember reading an interview in Guitar Player magazine with Fred Newell when he was the lead guitarist with Nashville Now on TNN. He mentioned that what opened doors for him was the solo and intro he played on "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" by the Kendalls. He said he played it with just a Telecaster and one of those old ShoBud Xmas tree amps. A very cool sound for sure....JH in Va.------------------ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!

Ken,I have one of the ShoBud amps and it is a great sounding amp. It sits in my studio beside a Webb 614 and a Fender Twin. The ShoBud seems a litle warmer and smoother than the Twin, and it does not have the tone variations that the Webb has, but for a great vintage sound, I think the ShoBud is hard to beat. I found this one on ebay and had to have it reconditioned and replaced the speaker with an original JBL and after all that I have about $600. in it. You can probably find one for less than that - (unless we hype them up here on the forum and the price goes up) Anyway, I hope that helps you. Darrell Owens |

Jennings, The "Christmas Tree" amp is solid state, and has no tubes in it. |

The shobud that followed the cristmas tree amp was a Custom, with JBLs mine went out and replaced it with a Blackwidow and it is great but low powered for outdoor use, I bought mine in 1972 along with my Professional D10, pack seat, Kawa piano, yamaha mixer 6 channel, and a Gretch country gentalman, that was some day of shoping. Never played the 6 string guitar sold it to the church in Lake City, in 1973 and Mark is still playing it today.ernie |

Jennings And a Xmas Tree amp has a single 15" speaker, not 2 12's, in addition to Stephen's comment.------------------ Herb's Steel Guitar Pages Texas Steel Guitar Association |
