Looks like a problem with the latest Norton AntiVirus update (3/15/06). Soon as it was installed I couldn't access AOL. Norton thinks there is an intrusion attempt and disconnects. I disabled Norton and was then able to access AOL and get to their customer support. They fired me a form eMail about being "unable to connect due to a recent Norton Update". The instructions are to disable Norton and contact Symantec about the problem. I did find that once I got connected to AOL I could immediatly re-enable Norton and still stay connected. |

Mark, I noticed that last night after being online wireless at the theatre I'm playing and retruning home, that I could not sign on with dial-up: However, this evening I'm back where the wireless is and had no problem getting online. I thought perhaps my dial-up modem or it's driver malfunctioned. Would you mind cut&pasting the form-letter here? Thanks, ~Russ[This message was edited by Russ Wever on 16 March 2006 at 06:59 PM.] |

Russ If you go to the Symantec site there is a fix you can download. Get online by disableing Norton Internet Worm Protection (click on Options and uncheck Worm Protection).Go to the address below for instructions. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2006031520164313?OpenD ocument&wsr... This straightened the problem out for me. (WindowsXP Serv.pack2 Norton System Works 2005 AOL 9.0 Optimized)[This message was edited by Mark Vinbury on 17 March 2006 at 06:25 AM.] |

Or, as another alternative, one could just deep-six the Symantec stuff, which I did long ago, and download the free AVG antivirus application. Two advantages, it eliminates future problems with the trouble-prone Symantec software, and it's free.Grisoft works very hard and provides free automatic virus signature updates every day. Works for me. |

Thanks Mark . . . However, I was able to sign on to dial-up the following night - without changing anything - so I'm not sure what went (temporarily) wrong. Since it's working, I won't 'fix it' but will keep track of the link you posted. Thanks, Russ
