My boyhood friend and steel player buddy, Benny Holcomb was buried Wednesday in Sherman Texas after a short battle with cancer.

IMHO Bennie was the most outstanding steel player in my neck of the woods. I have always said and still do,that he played better when he was in the 8th grade than I ever will.
Bennie played C6 Swing and jazz voicings the way I have always wished I could. He began playing at about 7 or 8 years old and by the time he was 12 or 13 he was in demand from many of the North Texas and Southern Oklahoma bands. While Bennie never hit the Big Time he could have in my opinion had he chosen to.

Having been best friends in elementary schools from the first grade, until time and relocations seperated us after high school, he definitely was an influence on my desire to play steel.

Rest in Peace my Buddy.

I could tell you many funny stories about Benny. I'm Glad that you posted the notice because other wise I would not have known.
He played for me for many years. Such a wasted talent. I have played with the best and he was the best.
thanks,

Wayne Thomas
