Jody, 3 pages of threads must tell you of the great affection everyone on the FORUM has for you. Each of us feel your sad loss in our own way and we know that you will never lose the memories of 50 wonderful years you had with Marilyn. She is now at peace and your life must now go on. Rest assured in the knowledge you have many, many friends out here in 'cyberspace' who will always be here for you.

Jody, I'm sure that you are proud that your wife insisted on you coming to St. Louis to receive your Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame plaque. She was so proud of you. She told me that several times. Just remember that your temorary loss is her eternal gain. Scotty

"Yussell,"...My deepest sympathy to you and all of your family. Marilyn was right about St. Louis. Marilyn was right about everything. She saw things that we didn't. She held her head high and never let anything get the better of her, and all in a simple and unassuming way. She had class, and she couldn't do enough for everybody.

I regret not having met her in person. I enjoyed our conversations when you were out walking the dogs.

May Marilyn Carver rest in peace.

I was asked to post this by the Carver's neighbors:
quote:

MARILYN, MY FRIEND.

My husband and I  had the distinct opportunity of meeting Marilyn and Jody last summer. It’s not too often that you meet someone; and feel like you have known them all of your lives.  Marilyn and Jody were our neighbors; and throughout the months they became more like family.

The first time I met Marilyn; I finally felt that I had a new friend.  The conversation was endless, and the laughter was constant.  One summer evening our friends came over and before you knew it – it was 3 in the morning.  Marilyn and I seemed to catch up on a lifetime of conversation.  Joe had mentioned that he was an accomplished guitarist – so naturally I had to pull out my Fender and Martin.  He played that Fender that night; like I had never seen those strings played before.  People often talk about a small world – but you can imagine the excitement when I found out that my husband Jim had grown up in the same neighborhood with Marilyn and Joe; and knew many of the same people.   We all know that “Jody” is a phenomenal musician; but Joe has   another talent that many people don’t know about:  “his ability to make you laugh”.  I’ve often told him that he has another calling; I never met someone who could make you laugh as Joe can.

As the months ensued; Marilyn and I wouldn’t go a week without calling each other.  I would go over for lunch, and the hours would fly by.  Marilyn was more than a friend to me.  We had such a bond and friendship that I felt this was God’s way of telling me there is a reason why you moved to “Pennsylvania from New York”.

For  Marilyn’s and Jody’s 50th Wedding Anniversary we went out to a restaurant.  This time I was going to have a little fun of my own.  After the staff wished them a Happy 50th   10 minutes later a waiter (who happen to be in the Godfather) came over and started asking Joe for his autograph because he was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of fame.  Marilyn got a real kick out of this!!

At some point Marilyn had become sick and needed cancer treatments.  I felt helpless most of the time; but I tried to give her all the support I could.  I was amazed at her stamina, and her will not to give up.  I would call her and she would tell me that she was up at 3 in the morning baking.  Marilyn was a fantastic cook and baker; as well as porcelain arts, china painter. She was also a gifted quilter as well.

Marilyn was set on going to St. Louis with Jody. She was so proud to be there for is big day.  She had an incredible determination.  When I looked at the two of them; it was evident of the love they both had for each other.

They had something special between the two of them that some people never experience in a lifetime.  Their commitment to each other is something that we can all learn from.  As I was walking out of Joes’ house the other day he said to me, “Everything looks different; the trees, the house,…”.   I knew exactly what he meant – things looked different to me too.  The air was different then it had been before.   A part of me was lost too.

Our sincere sympathies, prayers and love to you Jody and your entire family.

Chris & Jim Masterson

Thanks Chris and Jim .

Dear Jody:

I cannot add anything to what has already been said. Suffice it to say that I did not know you prior to StL and now there is seldom a day goes by that I don't think of you. Thank you for sharing with us in StL the couple referred to in Vince Gill's "Look At Us".

As Smiley said.."What a wonderful tribute"
I second and third that Jody !!!!
As you know ...its hard to get any sense out of us....Anne Marie...Smiley.....Donna and Me....but you know the full story....we are all there for you when you need us.
I was so pleased to be able to spend some time with both of you in St Louis...and a nicer person than Marilyn I dont think I have ever met....she kept fussing..and reminding me what time you were supposed to be on stage to play etc which was why I got my friend Michael....the Bell Boy ....to get the trolley and bring the gear down
Marilyn was just concerned that you would be comfortable on stage and set up in plenty of time...........as of course your mind was elsewhere......concerned about Her.

Jody my friend, please accept my heartfelt condolences at Marilyn's passing.

I am sure I have no words that can reach as far As I wish they could to comfort you.

I do know when I met you both in St Louis, that Marilyn said
she was so very proud of you,
and extremely happy to be there,
no matter the pain involved. She would NOT have missed it for the world.

She gave you a look of the purest love I have ever seen,
and I feel priveleged to have been there to meet you both at such a time.

I had exchanged e-mails with Marilyn in the past and she was a very sweet, kind, fun and intelegent woman.
To have spent 50 years with such a lady is a great privalege.

If I could be at the service, I would, but distance makes things impossible sometimes.
I only now just saw this thread, I was incommunicado last week.

Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I want all of you Forumites to know that Jody honored me in his time of grief and paid me the best compliment I have ever received regarding my playing -- when he told me he would be using my rendition of "The Lord's Prayer" from my album with that inspired vocal by Hal Higgins at Marilyn's memorial service.

Mr.Ayres in addition to your rendition of the
Lords prayer Jody's granddaughter has asked Jody if Somewhere Over the Rainbow will be played and Jody told me he would see to that.
Because that according to little Casey is where her grandmom is with Jesus "unquote"
I will be at the service and report back to you. Jody will eulogize his loved one.

On Jody's behalf I thank you sir.

You and I have not talked or emailed each other, but I have read so many of your great posts the past three years or so and have the greatest respect for you. My sincerest condolences to you, sir.

Jody,so sorry to hear of loss of your Sweetheart, Marilyn. Even before I met you and her in St Louis at your HOF induction I was much aware ,just from your writing on the Forum that yours was one of those love stories that will never end.

I am glad that I had a few minutes of oppurtunity to visit with you and her at St Louis and to breifly share some of the sunshine of her smile and love for you.

Although you met so many people and probably do not personally remember many of us, I am thankful that you and she have shared part of your lives with many of us,both on the Forum and at St Louis.

God bless you.
