Once considered the most photographed Samoan in the world, Joseph Moe, father of 12, died in his home of Summerlin, Nevada, surrounded by his family. The nephew of Tau Moe, and son of Pulu and Louisa Moe, famous entertainers with Felix Mendelssohn's Hawaiian Serenaders was born 'on the road' in the late 30's and had performing in his blood.
His life was another interesting page in the incredible Moe family history book. Now, Dorian Moe, Tau's daughter, is the last of the performing clan.
One of the best fire dancers of all time and long time dancer at the famed Lexington Hotel in NY City, he also shared the musical stage with local icons Don ho, Kui Lee in their Oahu heyday's.
A part time movie actor, he had only bit parts as a non speaking extra on Hawaii 5-0, due to his British accent.
Plus, he was the originater of the Hawaiian Punch character 'Moki', "How about a nice Hawaiian punch?!", and as an artist, helped then upstart T-shirt maven, Rick Ralston of Crazy Shirts get on the map at Waikiki's International Marketplace, when it was a very cool tourist trap.
On what would have been his 74th birthday, May 1st 2007, Moe's ashes will be scattered off Waikiki Beach after a great life's celebration.
They don't make 'em like the Moe family any more.
His son, Joseph Moe Jr. can be reached at gojoemoe@aol.com to share condolences, thoughts and memories.
