Gimme the sound of an LP over cassettes any day. (And often over CDs as well!) |

bOb, I still have a turntable, just put a new stylus in it and it sounds great. I recently purchase several Lloyd Green LP from a fellow forumite. They sound really good. I just need to find time to burn to CD so I can listen in the truck and in my practice room. ------------------ |

I would definitely choose LP over tape for a must-have album. As HowardR said

I prefer the sound of LPs through a good sound system but CDs are just too convenient. I got rid of my vinyl and turntable years ago (but I sure wish I'd transfered most of it over to CD). I don't like cassettes either. |

I would also prefer LPs over cassettes. Cassette dupe quality just isn't very high. Spent a lot of bucks this last year for a high quality needle and preamp so that I can burn CDs from my collection of vinyl that's not available on CD. Transfers are a slow ongoing process, with click and noise removal. |

b0b, I have a turntable and would probably be interested in some of those old Steel Guitar Record Club LP's. I have a couple. Can you post a list sometime of what you have in these?..........Thanks, JH ------------------ |

My direct-drive was over 20 years old when it was struck by lightning last summer. I replaced it with a Panasonic belt-drive unit for about $99 at Circuit City. It has a built-in preamp I can switch on or off; a preamp is required for input to a computer sound card. I only use it now for recording vinyls to CD's, which is a straight forward process. ------------------ |

I have turntable and prefer the sound over a CD hands down. I think pedal steel and acoustic guitars sound WAY better on analog equipment. |

Records are by no means dead, plus you can still special order them. I prefer it's warm sound . If you have a good turntable and a top notch cartridge & needle and take care of your records ---They will last a lifetime. Many of mine are 30 yrs old. TURNTABLE---Dual 1229Q with a Shure M95HE cartridge tracking @3/4 of a gram . ------------------ |

Howard is right on Bags Unlimited. Not only the best price and fastest fill on LP mailers but on CD mailers etc etc. I have two tuntables and prefer LPs to CDs. Despise cassettes. Most commercial cassettes have a four screw housing instead of five and use cheaper tape than the blanks you buy for a buck. I use cassettes for car tapes and giveaways and that's it. Put the LPs on The forum and if they don't sell then eBay. Nobody should complain about the $14 price you have on the ones already listed. That is fair for a long out of print LP and still cheaper than most new CDs. |

I have a Technics turntable I haven't used in a lot of years, although it is pretty much like new. I am sure it needs a new stylus. Does anybody know where I could buy one? Radio Shack? Electronic supply stores? Circuit City? Rex? |

I have a turntable, but seldom use it. Occasionally I want something which can only be found on an LP or 45rpm. I think they're still a viable commodity. |

Sure I have a great little turntable that has a cabinent/speakers that i bought for 20 bucks in a dusty garage at the junk shop in Dillon,Montana....which by the way is the best town in that state.Heck,it even has an 8 track and you can record your record to tape,so i can play on the casette player in my junkermobile(has 313,000 on it).....Yeah,sell those records Bob!I was buying them in the 70's(I'm only 41),when Tom Bradshaw had the record club, and by the way,as you know he is a great guy,I liken him to the West Coast Scotty.....So I guess now you will be filling that role since he donated so much to the forum. Also, your service on the guitar strings for my old Crown Sierra is just fantastic....love those Jagwires.Take care my Northern California pickin Cousin. |
