Author | Topic: Does anybody play in cowboy boots anymore? |
Gene Jones Member From: Oklahoma City, OK USA |
![]() I have worn Luchese boots for years, and I have always done the following when I bought a new pair: The heel on a good pair of boots is made of several "stacked" layers of leather. I take my new boots to a shoe shop and have one or more of the "layers" of leather removed. I do that to make them lower and more confortable for walking (I don't often ride horses anymore)....but it would also result in more room under the guitar for those who need it! |

![]() Why would I wear cowboy boots? ..I am not a cowboy..I am a musician :-) |
Gene Jones Member From: Oklahoma City, OK USA |
![]() It's the same thing as people who wear athletic shoes, and are not athletes! ![]() |

![]() Justin lace-up "ropers" are the most comfortable boots I've found for playing steel in. I like playing in running shoes too. Depends on the gig. ------------------ |

![]() Boots exclusively! No problem w/ my left (pedal) foot, but,my right (volume) foot gives me a problem. I need that "elevated" heel to keep me from getting a cramp in my calf. ------------------ |

![]() I play very little ( a couple times a month) and have found that western boots help me from riding the pedals unconciously as my heel is elevated somewhat more than a shoe. Never was a problem however, back when I played regularly. I do prefer a hard sole to a soft one however. |

![]() Whatever boots or shoes you wear, I have found that I have gotten alot more people asking questions about Pedal Steel Guitar since I started attaching two little reading lamps (the plug in type) to the front two legs of my steel (about half way down, pointed at the pedals), effectively "spotlighting" my pedal work. |

![]() With all of this talk about "cowboy boots"... How many of you wear Roy Rogers/Dale Evans jockey shorts/T-shirts with your boots? Or, isn't that optional anymore? |
Gene Jones Member From: Oklahoma City, OK USA |
![]() Roy Rogers was my 2nd Hero (following Gene Autry who was my first Hero). If jockey shorts and T-shirts had been marketed by either of them in my size, I would have worn them! ![]() .....but the intent of your post is clear and my answer is: "No, I never played any better because I was wearing cowboy boots! I wore them because that was the normal footwear where I was born!" .....however, for clarification, in the Southwest we don't call them "cowboy boots" ...we call them "boots". |

![]() Old and broken-in Topsiders, gigging or at home practicing. I've got to feel the pedals and where my feet are. |
Paddy Long Member From: Christchurch, New Zealand |
![]() I prefer cowboy boots because the higher heel makes it easier to pivot for those quick pedal moves - especially with 4 E9th pedals, plus the narrow toe helps with pedal selection. Hey Winnie in Ug Boots - your a real Kiwi now mate !!! |

![]() quote: Gene is absolutely correct. We do use some modifiers, though; as in "work boots," such as RedWings, et. al. Also, no one calls their short-shank, round-toe boots "Wellingtons." They're either "Ropers" (a Justin brand name fallen into general use), or just plain "boots." Additionally, nobody down here refers to "cowboy hats." They are "hats," unless referred to by material. "The wife got me a new Stetson 6X last week, and a new Resistol straw last spring. She done good." No "baseball caps" either. They are "caps," occasionally "gimme caps" (as in "gimme one of them caps") or "ballcaps." Only when used for fishing purposes would they be called a "fishin' hat" ("Damn it Martha, where's my fishin' hat?") Just sparing many of y'all future embarrassment. Take heed. ------------------ |
