Dan, I disagree. I think there are a variety of players out there who have been and currently are responsible for showing that the steel guitar can-- well, rather than say "compete with other instruments", I'll say, be just as musically capable as any other instrument. To say that Paul Franklin did this singlehandedly would debase the contributions of earlier and concurrent great players.

Additionally, while Paul is clearly an exemplary player in terms of technique and phrasing, I reiterate that there are plenty of other great players with just as unique and adept styles.

Perhaps it's just best to say that Paul Franklin is a wonderful player making a tremendous contribution to the instrument and a positive one to music, in general. Again, I'm learning to play today thanks in large part to him.

I'll have to agree with Dan. I think it was well stated. I heard Paul in St Louis at that 4 hour jam with Hal Rugg, Tommy White, Jeff Newman and Paul. I was absolutely worn out listening to all of the notes played. Paul played a slow song that gave me goose bumps it was SOOOOOO soulfull. Believe me he can play with feeling.

Charles Turpin.....I read you post and felt a lot of emotion. I've thought about what I would do in a situation like yours and I feel I would do just the same. The ultimate emphisis on something you really love to do.
Hang in there buddy!!
