Last night I saw a rerun of Saturday Night Live from the 1970's with Gordon Lightfoot as the musical guest.
As the camera rolled around, I saw a pedal steel, and hoped I'd see Peewee playing it.
On the first song, they only showed the players HANDS playing (during the the outro)!
The second song confirmed it -- Peewee pickin' and a grinnin' behind what I think was an MSA (?).
Very cool!
Anyway, I just wanted to give him a plug on the forum!

Pee Wee Charles is an amazing player. All the stuff he played on Gord's songs contunues to be truly inspiring for me as a player and music lover. It's cool that he's a fellow Canadian. And his tone on those records was to die for.
What's he doing now? Anybody know what he used on the Lightfoot sessions for steel and amp?

Hi Lee, Wow, that's going back a few years.....I remember doing Saturday Night Live with Gord.. it was a blast, as those were the crazy John Belushi, Chevy Chase days...I remember doing the show, Gord wanted to play another song & Belushi in his Samurai costume came up with string cutters & cut all the strings off his Martin, very funny ...I also got asked to play in the skit before Gords segment,,,,Del Staters Toad Farm Ranch.....played with the Sturday Night Live band, what a thrill.....all the best Lee.....
Chris..thanks for the nice complements, I was using MSA back then & of course Peavey amp right from the get go.....Just saw Gord @ Massey Hall a few weeks ago, he's doing well after almost dying af a pancreatic aneurism.....brought back a lot of memories & I think i could have gotten up & played all the tunes...I'm playing with local a group of studio players in clubs, studio work for a lot of the National Canadian artists, Sean Hogan, Jamie Warren, Jim Witter, Bev Mahood jingles etc. and corporate parties for fun....My day job for last 14 years, retail sales manager @ the areas # 1 radio station....The best thing in our lives....my daughter had a lttle baby girl 3 months ago...first grandchild for us...life does not get any better...Thanks again for the nice comments after all these years & health & happiness to everyone....Ed

Hey Pee Wee!
I hope your trip to the Carribean a few months ago was a good one for you and your son. Hope that trip was relaxing so that you could stay up at night with that Granddaughter!

Hi Mike, The trip to Costa Rica was fabulous....great bonding with my 23 year old son, kept up with him every night at the disco, shooting pool.....as you know, our daughter gave birth to our little bundle of joy, Talya, the night before we left.....we knew the due date would be close, so I planned on taking my son...what a blast & just beautiful country....went on the zip lines 200 ft above the jungle, what a rush, if anyone goes to Costa Rica, it is a must.....I am just lovin the new Nashville 112, it is probably one of the best amps I have used live & in the studio in all the years I have been using Peavey amps....I'm aging myself ....what do you expect, I'm a Grandpa now.....I will be calling to order another, so I can go stereo....thanks for the best product on the planet & say hi to everyone at Peavey.....Ed

Hi Peewee:
I don't know if you'll remember this because it was back in the seventies, but I got a steel lesson from you in Dave Paul's living room in Vancouver. You were out to do a show, and I think you ended up coming out and sitting in at our gig. You do remember Dave don't you. I haven't seen Dave in about twenty five years but I talked to him on the phone awhile back. He's doing a single act now. And me I've retired from my day job, and am back playing a little more now.

Pee Wee, was that you doing all that tasteful stuff on the Wreck Of The EF, very haunting sounds, with nice chimes...maybe a flanger or something....pure taste!

Hi Jim, I think it was an MXR phase 90 on the Wreck Of The Edmundd Fitzgerald, thru a Peavey amp.... we cut that @ Easten Sound in Toronto at 3 in the morning, need I say more.... Gord wrote the song from a Newsweek article he read the day before, 1st take was the one that made the record....meant to be an album filler & sold over 2 million copies.....trylu a memory to the crew & there families....FYI, the guitar sound was thu an old Fender Princeton amp my Dad got me from the 50's... with a whole in the speaker...thanks for the reply....all the best...Ed
