![]() My 2 cents again,The sound is not 100% Even so this vidio is worth it's weight in platium.Curly WAS the man.I am a big Bobbe fan,he may not remember, but I told him one time at his shop, you are my second favorite player, but to me Curly will always no.1,And I think he agreed with me. |

![]() I want a copy of the whole Curly program, but will settle for whatever. I don't care as long as it is of Curly. The guy was a Steel Giant! Some could have a little more patience and don't try to edit everything for them. Curly could cut it! Let it be Curly's whole show!

![]() I've decided what to do. I will make one disk, recirded at the fastest speed, for maximum quality, of just the music. this will run about 2 hours. By request, and against my better judgememt, I will also make a second disk which will contain all of Curlys comments, as well as portions of the St Louis show where Curly backed up Wade Ray and singers from the audience. (Some of this material was irretrievable lost due to an accident at the time of the taping.) However all the true dead time, (tuning etc,) will be edited out of this disk. This disk will run at the slower speed, with the attendent loss of quality. It will be around 4 hours. There is some new news, Curly's stepson, who is an audio and vidio engineer who does commercials for major corporations, is interested in seeing if he can use his facilities to enhance the picture and sound qualities. I don't know if this is possible, but it's certainly worth investigating. This may mean more delays in the release date, but it might well be worth the wait. I'll continue to keep you all informed.

![]() I will gladly take everything that has an image of the KING in it- even a shot of him on the john. There will never be another like him. Clyde |

![]() I like Mike's idea, although I think it makes for far too much work for him. He's trying to please a lot of people, and I hope it's worth his while (i.e. I hope those who say they want the whole thing actually pony up for the "extended" portion). Confession - I've never heard Curly Chalker, but I'd like to get the music-only DVD. |

![]() I would think it would be more worthwhile to have a tight, quality product than to have a boring, low quality product whose "extra features" will only be watched once—if at all—by the few people who actually bother to buy it. If you don't make a disc with the boring stuff kept in, who will be disappointed? Only a handful of people who probably only think they want the whole thing. -Travis |

![]() Travis, I agree with you. I think the people who say they want it all don't really know what it is they are asking for. As David Donald pointed out, watching even the greatest player in the world tune up is, to use his words, as exciting as watching paint dry. However it's not going to cost much to make the masters, and when the time comes, I will only make copies of the unedited disk in very small lots, (maybe 10 at a time) and only after 5 or 6 people order them. I think once these are finally made available, everybody will agree, the edited disk, with it's 2 hours of uninterrupted music, is possibly the hottest steel guitar video ever made, but the unedited one contains a lot of material that would have been better left on the cutting room floor. The session to transfer the material from tape to disk is tentatively scheduled for the day after tomorrow. To be continued.... |

![]() Mike-I would buy the whole thing unedited. I think it would be historical just to watch Curly tuning his guitar. Why not Let us decide what is worthwhile watching or not.? I have got Scotty's Christmas Video tape of Curly and Bobby Caldwell. But put me down for whatever you come up with, and thanks.....al ------------------ |

![]() Howdy Mike, I think it would be cool to see the non-musical stuff. I really enjoyed the VHS tape you came out with a few years back. Granted, the video and sound quality weren't the best, but WHO CARES? It's still cool! Put me down for one! Take Care |
Gary Walker Member From: Morro Bay, CA |
![]() Mike, whatever you decide, I'll buy. Now, a lot of banter without the music could be a bit boring. But maybe a tuningup section might give a few of Curly's fans a chill. I heard that Gordie Tapp of Hee Haw said when Curly was tuning up, he drew a lot of attention. It wasn't just strings going to pitch but he would rip off some great chord runs that would raise some chicken skin. So, put me down for whatever makes the final cut and I can edit out what I think is moot. |

![]() I hope everybody realizes this will be the same material that was on the VHS tape. The omnl;y difference will be that the technical quality will be much better.

![]() Mike: I would want mostly the music. Logistics would state that this would be the way to go for the business and product marketability. But you know what??... a small, tidbit of the incidental stuff (smoking, drinking, tuning) sprinkled into the video would be kinda' cool too, if only enough to set the mood. Keeping it to one disc seems like a good thing. Like others have stated, I'd buy it either way, short or long version. After all, it's Curls man!!! Sincerely, |

![]() Seems there is a lot of desire to hear Curley speak and get a sense of his personality, as well as his "pickin'ality". I am all for that. I never got to see him live. If there is some cool things he did in the middle of tuning up, a few times, Joking with the audience is cool too. But just swigging beer and having a smoke ain't entertainement. One thought; I have worked as a video editor and mastered a few DVD's too. Using the theory "Garbage in garbage out"... (tape format, not the performance) IF the master tape is no better than enhanced VHS video, The last concert DVD I did was edited back to I suspect you can put most if not all of the real content on 1 DVD, It is cool Curley's stepson is interested and has facilities to help. ![]() David's points are very well taken. VHS footage transfered to DVD is still going to look like VHS two generations down. However, content is king. We all overlook the techincal side when the content is compelling. I found that to be true with my Ralph Kolsiana DVD. In that program, I decided to letterbox the lower quality camera original fooage against a high-quality animated background. It kind of subtly communicated that, yes we know the footage is degraded, but check out how cool the content is. No complaints yet. |

![]() The fellow who is going to make the transfer from tape to disk is ill. We have rescheduled for Friday, the day after tomorrow. |

![]() Mike, maybe you should print out some of this thread, and discuss it with your video transfer tech, before you get going. It may make many issues for him, and you, clearer. Andy, curious about the letter box idea. Years back, in NYC, I edited a music video about human rights issues. Hand held BnW camcorders while running in Aceh riots, It was destined for big screeen outdoors at a UN sponsored human rights ralley in south america among other venues. So how do you deal with footage from $50 surveilance cameras recorded at 1/8th normal VHS speed, when it's gonna be blown up to 35 foot screens? Enhance it, and give it a sampling that doesn't show artifacts ADDED to the original. With 15-16 hours of footage to edit down to 7 minutes, there was nothing to be gained by over sampling dog poor footage. [This message was edited by David L.
