There have been a couple of threads recently mentioning Barbara Mandrell's awesome steel playing. Over here (U.K.) we see NOTHING of steel players on TV Is there anyone here in forumland who can post a link to any of her performances on steel - either audio or video ? |

I don't have any sources, they've got to be available somewhere. I recall seeing a show about her on TV, she was young, perhaps 13, and really giving an Emmons D-10 a good workout. Edit: I shouldn't say available, but rather that there must be tapes of the show in storage out there somewhere. [This message was edited by David Cobb on 26 January 2006 at 10:24 PM.] |

Years back, she was on a Christmas Special on the old Nashville Network and she played the "Steel Guitar Rag'(the Buddy Charlton and Leon Rhodes arrangement) and she really smoked. Don't know if those shows are available any where. Jody. |

I saw her about two weeks ago on a 1971 Wilburn Bros tv show. The show airs on the RFD channel on Thursday and Saturday nights. Its on a couple of other times also. She was playing Hal Ruggs steel. JUNIOR

The Barbara Mandrell Show used to be broadcast in the UK in the 70's, and I can confirm that this very talented all rounder was a very competent E9 and C6 player. The few times that she sat behind a steel I was impressed. |

I remember when she was on TV with her sisters. On one program, she went down the line and played every instrument in the band including the pedal steel. If I remember right, her own instrument was white in color but I forget the brand. Erv |

Couldn't find a clip (yet) online, but here's a link to a Quicktime dramatization of the young Ms Mandrell playing a trade show: http://www.lindseyhaun.com/19/actress/gettotheheart002video.html |
