![]() In today's NY Times arts section there's an article on Bruce Springsteen's upcoming tour featuring "folk standards" with a 17 piece band (horn section, texas swing fiddles, cajun accordian). In the pagewide photo of the band rehearsing there's an Emmons steel and the apparent player is standing in front of the steel playing an acoustic guitar. Just curious who this is, sure looks like fun! |

![]() Marty Rifkin's been doing some playing with Springsteen in the studio lately, but I don't know if he's doing any live work or not. |

![]() Skip's got it. Marty Rifkin. The project is a quote: Pete is a personal hero of mine (and I don't believe in heros) so this has some real resonance. http://www.brucespringsteen.net/news/index.html [This message was edited by Jon Light on 16 April 2006 at 06:16 PM.] |

![]() Not to long ago you may remember in cincinnati our april riots? Well in wake of these riots activists boycotted the "city" it was a very hard time for all, Springsteen was scheduled to play at US bank arena, well these activists boycotted the concert, well the concert is sold out and sure enough during the sold out show springsteen has to make a political statement supporting the activists, yes he was booed! The next day all the radio stations (bill cuningham 700 wlw) pointed this out, and alot of peaple where pissed, so if your job is to sing just sing, that night the boss lost alot of fans and me... |

![]() Anybody who goes to a Springsteen concert expecting him to keep his political opinions to himself doesn't know a thing about Springsteen or his music... and that's YOUR problem, not his... [This message was edited by Pete Finney on 17 April 2006 at 07:23 AM.] |

![]() I can't get over the fact that Jersey-born and raised Springsteen has been speaking with a fake hick accent since the early 80's...I don't buy it. Al |

![]() Not to mention the fact that Pete Seeger was very political himself. Some of us view the folk tradition as a means of disseminating political opinion and regard it as a good thing, and an American tradition. |

![]() Bruce does not speak with a "fake hick accent"...not everyone from NJ sounds like the cast of "The Sopranos"...Bruce grew up in Freehold, and many folks around there speak this way...in fact, if you venture down to the Pine Barrens in South Jersey, you'll find folk whose speech patterns haven't changed since the American Revolution. ![]() Closed because of topic drift. The question about his steel player was asked and answered. Springsteen's political views (whatever they are - I really don't follow him) are off topic for this Steel Guitar Forum. ![]() ------------------ |
