Saw Brad Paisley on Leno a few minutes ago.The steel player must have been just stage decoration,never heard a note he played,nothing but guitar solos[which were great]but looks he could have given the steel just a little bit. |

Only the Alt Country guys and retro country acts are giving out the steel solos these days. The new country guys are afraid they won't cross over to Amercian Top 40 if the steel kicks in. |

I saw the show, too. If you listened real close you could hear a couple of steel fills. Certainly not much, and not one of Brad's better songs. Chris,I agree,That's why I think Dale Watson is the greatest thing going today.His music is loaded with phenomenal steel playing,plus his own great tele playing.It's a damn shame he is ostracized by the so -called [MU-SICK] industry. |

Good point chris, I like to hear a good balance of steel, and tele myself but maybe that isn't what the younger generation wants, isn't the largest age group of peaple buy cd's 16-21 (if they don't burn em')so I guess all he is doing is trying to reach out. I would like that job "steel decoration!" CARTER D10 |

Perhaps on that song, Randle didn't get to do anything - but I wouldn't judge Brad Paisley's opinion of steel by that. On Brad's most recent album, there is a fair amount of "front and center" steel guitar, and some nice dobro on a couple of tracks by Jerry Douglas. Out of all the top so-called country acts out there today - Brad is only one of a handful that I like. Don't lump him in with all the mediocrity! ------------------ |

Which song did he play? I missed the show  . I'm 22, and one reason I buy his albums is because he features steel A LOT. Randle is excellent. As for his opinion on steel (or his soundman's, rather) it is up there 100%. I just saw Alan Jackson on Saturday and I couldn't hear what Robbie Flint was doing at all. Nor Danny Groah for that matter. The little glimpses I got were awesome, but I was left wanting a little more sound-wise. I'm sure that wasn't Alan's decision, but still. Brad, on the other hand, backed off and let Randle rip it in concert. That's the loudest, most intense sound I've ever heard live (including rock concerts, and including Brad's tone).
