From a Compilation called "The Other Side:Music From East Nashville" comes a fabulous tune by Chely Wright with an amazing l-o-n-g outro solo by Lloyd Green. The tune is "WISH ME AWAY" and is featured on Chely's MySpace page:
www.myspace.com/chelywright

give it a listen I think you'll be glad you did!

Disclaimer: Last Train Home frontman Eric Brace is co-producer of the compilation. It is on Red Beet Records which is now the home of the Last Train Home catalog as well.

well I am glad you guys can hear it- ever since I posted the link, that one tune won't play for me on any computer I've tried; the other tunes on her site play just fine, but Wish Me Away just freezes at "connecting"

wierd.

"that one tune won't play for me on any computer I've tried"

It's interesting to hear that it's not just me who can't listen to that Lloyd solo. That particular song never downloads on my computers, while the other songs do.

Gee, this is becoming really frustrating given the overwhelming reviews from the other guys.

I suspect it's another MySpace glitch- i'm having mystery mail issues with my MySpace account.

I'll talk to the Comp producer and see if I can get permission to post a clip

See, the problem with Chely Wright is she's just not good-looking enough to make it in today's market.

Weird! It wouldn't play at all in Firefox. I got it to play just once in IE. After the one play it froze on "connecting". Oh well, at least I got to hear it once! Well worth the trouble--Beautiful!

As always, Lloyd's playing is the definition of excellence. Anyone know if he was using his new Show-Pro, or was it the L.D.G.?

It's playing now and the steel work is good as it gets. I see she's playing a couple of the very local spots near here like the Basement and Family Wash. Family Wash is the remnants of a laundromat in East Nashville near my home.

This is extremely frustrating, I'm ready to request a bootleg.

Is it possible there's only one stream available per song?

Lloyd very graciously answered my question above via email. I asked his permission to post the information, as I knew there would be others who were also interested in the guitar, etc... that he used. He very kindly allowed me to post his response.

Here it is:

quote:
Hi Lem,
Since this Chely Wright song seems to have generated a little activity here's what I used:
My new Show-Pro, Fender Twin/15" JBL and one mike. That's all.

Best regards,
Lloyd Green

and from the second email, here is some additional info from Lloyd.

quote:
Yes, please post the information I sent you. My heart and first love will always be my Sho-Bud, but I really like this Show-Pro. It is the nearest to a Sho-Bud sound I've heard and it plays and records beautifully. For those who care about cosmetics it's elegantly pretty too.
On future recordings I'll be heard playing either my Sho-Bud or Show-Pro, but no other. For me, all steels become extremely personal and require "acquaintance" time. I'm starting to make friends with the Show-Pro now.
Besides, I'm far more interested in music than mechanics. I don't like to think about how the steel is performing, just the music.

So there you have it, straight from Mr. Lloyd Green himself.

Hey Guys, I was just on the site and heard the tune perfectly. After reading Lloyd's emails about the Show-Pro, I had to try and hear the intro- very nice, love the richocets. It is nice to know that some people still like that "real" sound. Now, I've got to go and check out Show-Pro.

It's weird because if I click the other songs on her page they load with no problem. Maybe it was put on the page with a different formet? Is it an MP3? Can anyone confirm that much?

Great, now I can't get any to work. I hate, and have always hated MySpace, IMO it should be shut down for various reasons, one of which is it's horrible formating.

Amen to all the above. If any of you DON'T have Lloyd's "Revisited" CD, then see the error of your ways and get it immediately. It's full of simply mystical and magic notes like this Chely Wright track. Lloyd just has unique voicings I've never heard anyone else play, all with incredible taste, finesse and tone. Unbelievable how tasty his playing is.

One good thing about Lloyd's "new" career as steel king of the alternative-music world (check out his playing on that Robbie Fulks CD) is that this kind of moment couldn't have happened in current country music. The less covered up a steel is, the better, at least with a true artist like Lloyd Green.

I too have had no luck accessing the song.

quote:
My new Show-Pro, Fender Twin/15" JBL and one mike. That's all.

quote:

In this day and age of so many effects, etc. I am amazed at the incredible sounds from going "back to the basics." Last I read, Lloyd was using a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with two JBL D-130F's for recording. He is now using a Twin "only." No effects listed and amp reverb. How incredible it is to stay with the basics that have served well for decades. Lloyd, thanks for being an inspiration to all of us and making the music that we all love to listen to for so many years!
