Cool! He really had to lean over that thing to get to the outside neck!

I hate to say it, as it's obviously a sore spot with some of you hard-core disbelievers,
but did you notice HOW Noel used the bar to bang his way up the neck and then used his right hand to roll the TONE CONTROL KNOB to get his "doo wah" affect?
I didn't see any slight of hand movement to operate an electronic cut-off device that is so often described here on the forum. Nor, did I see either hand move to the between the necks location to operate such a "secret device"........so often attributed to the playing skills of Speedy West and countless other accomplished steel guitar artists.
I wonder how they did it then, without that "magic button"?

That was pretty cool, alright, but one thing that hits me watching the thing: I don't ever want a quad guitar. Noel makes it look sort of easy, being such a great player and all.

But it looks like a pretty good stretch to me to play that fourth neck. There's a lot of leaning forward and arms seriously extended.

Ray, there's a thread somewhere here that explains how Speedy did his tricks. It wasn't with a switch as many people thought.Jody, Jussi. I'll let some of these fellows that can type explain it......bb

You really should be careful wearing a tie around complicated heavy equipment!

Those girls behind Noel sure look impressed.Maybe it's his bar technique, possibly his Boo-Wah.Somehow I don't think it's the tie.Whatever it is THAT'S the trick you wanna know.
Jokes aside,AWESOME!Thanks.
Shane.

Dave click on edit on Drews post
and it shows all the code. You just can't edit it.
But you can copy,
then paste and then edit in your own post.

Then just replace the : http://www. etc etc

with your link to video source.

I would have copied it all to show you,
but that would have just embeded the video again here.

And dropping some code would have been tricking you.
So just look at Drew's post.
it's all there.

When you see and hear great artistry such as this, one has to wonder why pedals have become such a necessity ? I'm certainly not anti-pedals, but just listen to what NOEL can do using only one of four necks, his amazing technical abilty ! Completely blows me away and should be an inspiration for all the younger steel players coming up...(and this all happened about 40 years ago!)

Keoki, is that the Quad Noel wanted to swap you?
Didn't he have a black one, and then a red one?

Just think, you could have been Noel Boggs!

But not to worry, you have the guitar he wanted, and that's something you can be just as proud of.
Besides, you might of had to eventually donate it to a museum instead of getting the $ a piece with such provenance could demand, and without the medical bills incured from lugging the Quad monster around.
So, I'd say you came out ahead.

Nathan, you're most welcome, but you really should thank JW and Dave Stuckey. I just happened to see this on youtube before anyone else posted it here ( would've been just a matter of time ). I first saw this clip about 7 years ago at Steve Hathaway's house on a real 16 mm film sound blasting from a big speaker. Just imagine how that was.
George hit the nail in the head, I was very tempted to post this clip to the topic about Fender 400 vs modern pedal steels, just to show that it's the music not mechanics that counts.
And btw, the late Lee Knight recorded a note for note version of Noel's Alabamy Bound in the 50's. When I first found that 45 I had never heard of Lee, so I thought it was Noel under a pseudo.

Great clips. I'd love to have a T 8 or Quad Fender. Of coarse if I had a Quad with my fat belly and short arms I'd have to mount it on a lazy susan and spin it around to play the top neck.
