hahaha! This is going nowhere fast! Certainly a lighter conversation than the AJ post by Craig Davidson on the Steel Guitar page. That's a chunky Basset, Ron DD |

How about this....Instead of selling .....why don't we just pass the stuff around to each other.....keep it for a while then send it to someone else.....maybe even the hound... Or we could just ask Buddy to build a nice big addition to his house with plenty of bunk space and then time share. But some how, I think, even in my field I couldn't get this to fly!! JD |

We have to be careful. The Animal Rights activists or ACLU might be lurking. ARNOLD ZIFFLE FOR PRESIDENT! Get some lipstick on that pig! "I'm Arnold Ziffle and I approve this message". |
|
Ron Elliott Member From: Madison, Tennessee, USA |
Say Dennis, Now that I think about it, Arnold just might be the right one, what with all the mud-slinging, he would probably fit right in, Whattyethink? I still kinda favor the cow, it's just something about her eyes. Ron |

Hey Guys, this has been such fun and such a relief from..."how do you bend your picks, what kind of pickups, howgee make that run,do you like this kind of guitar better that the other, which amp is best, and How Great thou art!" We need more fun and humor in our lives, of course, that's just my way of thinking...I'm really enjoying all this! Thanks for letting me horn in. Ron |

I agree, a less serious post is good for a change. A cow huh? A gentle one with big brown eyes, luring lips, nice hooves and can make nice big pies? I think I went with one once? DD |

LUCAS ? |
|
John Daugherty Member From: Rolla, Missouri, USA |
Ron, you may fool some people into thinking you're not old enough to remember Nick Lucas. You won't fool this old buzzard. I am sure Bobby(Super C) has owned some of his picks. Nick even had a guitar course. I just found a link where you can buy his biography. (Of course Buddy is not old enough to remember him) I happen to know that Buddy and I were born the same year, but my socks smell better than his. www.redhotjazz.com/lucas.html |

There are those who think it dosen't stink!I'll bet you didn't know that Buddy Emmons nicknamed me Lucas about 20 years ago. I can tell you the story when we have a little more time. Please take care and stay in touch. Ron PS. Jack, I had a Nick Lucas white plastic bar in 1948....Whooopsie-Daisy!!!! [This message was edited by Ron Elliott on 18 October 2004 at 08:41 PM.] |

John Daugherty Member From: Rolla, Missouri, USA |
Ron, I am not old enough to know about the 40s but I was told that they started making a lot of things out of plastic then. Funny thing though, I never saw a plastic bar. The ones I played in were either wood or brick. That was good, because I had to make a few new doors in some of them in an effort to make a quick exit........JD |

It's probably too late now,but don't this thread belong in the comedy section? Speaking of comedy, that reminds me of my steel pickin'. No wonder it ain't gettin' any better as much time as I spend readin' this stuff. Oh well it's all set up and pluged in I think I'll go torture it for a while. |

Hey John D. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Never mind those Nick Lucas picks. Just use an old Howdy Doody button." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stan Freberg's "Rock Around Stephen Foster" circa mid 50's. (bet you thought no one would remember, didn't ya?) ------------------ |
|
John Daugherty Member From: Rolla, Missouri, USA |
Smiley, I knew you would remember 'cause I was told that you started pickin' before electricity and your first guitar was a kerosene guitar. Also heard that when you were born, the dead sea wasn't even sick. I remember Stan Freberg ("I come through the window" guy)You got me on the Stephan Foster song. I ain't tellin' my age but this is the truth... My first touring job was a canadian tour playing steel for Lefty Frzzell (I was 23 years old). I played a triple neck Steel made by Don Davis and Hank Garland. It had Bigsby pickups and one of shot jacksons pedals which pushed up on 2 strings behind the nut. They called it a 'Dalan"or Dalen??? After our last show, I sold that guitar to a man in Chilliwac and bought a Fender400 for which Ralph had to show me his tuning to give me a jump start on learning pedals ...........JD |

He said he would await your answer before making any further decisions..Take care Jennings..... We play steel for the beautifull angelic sound of it.... ------------------ |

Tommy, a picture of LuLu Roman inlaid inside the bottom of the mug. When you see LuLu, you know it's empty. |
|
John Daugherty Member From: Rolla, Missouri, USA |
Picture of Lulu? Man that would encourage drinking. I would get that cup filled as quickly as possible to cover the picture. P.S. How big is that cup anyway???????? A picture of Lulu would weigh 7 or 8 pounds. |
|
Ron Elliott Member From: Madison, Tennessee, USA |
John, I'm trying to remember, But I believe the cup size is a 46-D. Ron |
|
Dennis Detweiler Member From: Solon, Iowa, US |
Ron, I never could understand the meaning of cup size. 46 oz? Or it holds 46 cups? Something doesn't sound right about Buddy's cup size?? GET SOME LIPSTICK ON THAT PIG ARNOLD ZIFFLE FOR PRESIDENT |
|
John Daugherty Member From: Rolla, Missouri, USA |
Ron, 46D or bigger for sure for Lulu Roman. I'm watching a cow in the field across the river from me. Looks kinda cute,Ron. Looks like about a 96G 4-banger. I could swear she is mooing "I only have eyes for you". I hear one of her calves working on "moooooon river". I haven't had so much fun since Moons cousin (little Joe Carson) threw up on his fender 1000. Ralph just set it in his yard, washed it off with a garden hose, went to bed and played it on a session the next day. And that's the truth.....JD |
|
Ron Elliott Member From: Madison, Tennessee, USA |
John, when they look that cute across the field, I can only assume they're in the mooooooooood for luv. I did like the 4-banger bit,, that was udderly clever. I guess we're trying to keep abrest of things.I'm thinking this very well might be a lot of Bull,..Cows zat? Your moooooove.. |
|
Farris Currie Member From: Ona, Florida, USA |
Dang, this has gone from LULU to MOOOOOOMO!! i like washing it with a water hose!!gotta be tough to take it!hell on strings!!I once new a guy who was doing a out door gig,and a bird flew over, and craped on his head right in the middle of his break!!! |
|
John Daugherty Member From: Rolla, Missouri, USA |
I know this has gotten way off track, but what the heck guys. I think it has gotten better. Farris, Ralph was a funny guy to be around and a great guy and friend. If you like the hose story.... Ralph used a fender volume pedal. I think he threw the bottom cover away because it was never on it. When the pot got scratchy he would grab whatever he was drinking and pour it in the pot. It was smooth for another night. I asked him why he had a double neck and only used one neck. He said "I'm saving that for hard times". Ron, Chet had a funny story about "Moon River" that he only shared among friends(can't post it here). If you don't already know about it, I will send it to you. Well we have discussed "Moooon River","In the mooood" and "Ralph Moooooney". I's time for me to moooooooove on out of here. I think I just heard a big round of applause amid the boooooooooos. |
