http://www.zumsteel.net/

it is mostly informational right now(Bruce's catalog which he gave me at st. louis)

however, i will be adding a user's Zum Gallery where all of us Zummers can get more info from each other on serial numbers, models, years, etc....

This is good news! I have never owned a Zum, but I have always admired the sound + quality of the mechanics. Maybe someday I will.
Don't see pricing for the lacquer
option. Perhaps that is quoted separately?

greg,
please send me manual.....i will post
i think bruce will be cool with that.
we want zummers and non zummers to get what info they need.

jerry,
i believe bruce is not currently producing laquer because of time/cost issues.
you may want to call him. i'm sure he can special order anything.

Hey Zumbuddy's the manual is up - do note however that the version I had (and Rand has for your downloading pleasure on the site) did not have any diagrams - just text...for now

Well done Rand -- it was worth waiting for..
just a thought for the future, can you display the Mica colours available at some stage ?? It is quite confusing trying to visualise what some of the colours in the catalogue actually look like when trying to decide on a colour for a new guitar.

Great job Rand! This is something I didn't think we'd see. I would have bet on the Red Sox getting to the World Series before there would have a Zumsteel website! Wait a minute, they did make it.

Rand,

Congratulations on a very good site! I know you and Bruce will add many more interesting things to the site. Bruce always told me he did not have time for a computer and I understand why. However, I always thought he needed a web site and now you have managed to put together a very good one for Zumsteel and Bruce .

You did good !!!!!

I've been and still am, a Zum player since 1980. I have been told I purchased the second Zum that was sold in Houston back when Bruce started his business . I think the first one that Bruce sold in Houston was to a late friend of mine named Don Barr ( may
his soul rest in peace).I could be wrong on both counts but that is what I was told.

I have nothing but praise for Bruce and the fine Steel he builds. I'm getting up there in years but I still enjoy my Zum about every day . They are the BEST in my opinion!

Keep up the good work Rand!

I'm not sure. I'll have to wait until I visit someone who has a high speed connection to view it. I live so far in the woods we have a "crank up" connection.

Great!!!! Beautiful site!
Rand, I will link to your site from my Zum Gallery page of Zum pix; if you want you may do the same.
edit- wow- the link is already on there! either you're very quick or you beat me to it 'fore I asked...-end edit

I really like the idea of the front apron configurator; when I was deciding about my order, I scanned the apron design sheet Bruce sent me into my computer, and in a graphics/paintbrush program filled in the different designs with colors approximating the mica samples Bruce also sent...

Rand-
I got to visit the Zum site on 10/26 and soaked up every page. I told my brother about it, since he owns a Zum. However, I noticed the video clip had been removed. Do you think you could put it on the site again. I just get a kick out of watching the pros "pick and grin!"

Rand,

I am very proud to see one of my two lacquer Zum's as the first in your gallery! Let me know when you are ready and I can send you some additional pictures.

For everyone who is curious about the lacquer option not being listed in Bruce's literature, I will tell you what Bruce told me last September. Bruce said he was not offering to make lacquer guitars because they take so much longer than mica. Please understand that I am not trying to speak for Bruce, but he did tell me that directly and I don't believe he would mind me repeating what he said. (The new Hybrid guitar that I ordered from him in September will be mica covered.)

Bruce is a true craftsman. His quality is second to none. He is also a great guy and he plays very well too!

Thanks Rand for a great site.

Tony,

if you ever decide to sell that blue one.....it matches my leisure suit

i do believe you are correct about the lacquer issue......i asked Bruce in St. Louis about building me a pretty lacquer blue one just like yours and he told me the same thing.

also thanks to Greg Simmons and Don Walters for hooking up Zumsteel manuals.

Very nice site, Rand! It's great that Zum has a presence on the web, now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Bruce is without a doubt one of the greatest people in our steel guitar world. He builds the finest steel guitars today, and backs them with his *personal* support. His guitars are the best deal going for a new steel. I love mine!

I might have to order me one of those Zum shirts and/or caps....

Rand,

I just saw your Zum Website and was impressed but I also have a compliant. I noticed that you expressed thanks to Greg Simmons and Don Walters for contributing the Zum Manuals. I hate to imform you but the manual that you have there is NOT theirs. I started with the manual that I got with my Steel from Bruce and then I updated it. What you have in the website is almost my original work. There are some deletions, mainly my name, but everything else is totally my work.

When I had my stroke, I had to stop updating the manual. Some guys wanted what I had at the time so I emailed them the WordPerfect Document, knowing that the manual was not complete.

What you have in your website is my uncompleted work, not Greg or Don.

I just wanted you to know.

Congratulations Bruce. Good looking web site. It has been a long time coming, but we are proud for you. I have had 4 or 5 new Zums and presently have another on order. For me, they are the best and I'm glad to say I am a Zum owner. Even it takes a long time to get one, it is worth waiting for.

Subject: Zum Manual

Hi Rand;

attached is the version of the Zum manual that I got from a guy on the forum
a
few years ago.

Unfortunately this one doesn't have any graphics, but good text info
nonetheless.

Let me know if the attachment makes it ok.

thanks,

Greg

**************************

Further clarification, the "guy on the forum" I received the manual from was not Bob, but another gent whose name I don't recall; the email in question from him is on another Mac of mine that is packed up right now. I did email Bob requesting a copy of the manual but received no reply, so this kind fellow saw a subsequent post of mine on the forum and assisted.

Don Walters offered to convert the manual to PDF for ease of use.

Hopefully Bob will feel better if Rand can remove our names.

Finally - Bob Brocius, thanks for converting the manual into digital format in the first place

I didn't want to upset anyone. I just wanted you to know where the original came from.

I'm still recovering from my stroke so my words are not always what I truly mean. Very sorry, especially to Greg Simmons & Don Walters. I hope these guys will forgive me.

Hey Bob B ... not to worry! No offense taken!

If you or anyone else updates the Word file, I'd be happy to create the pdf file once again. It took me, let's see ... about 45 seconds!

Thanks Don. My recovery is going good. I have been playing "out" for about a year now. I'm not the player I once was but the guys in the band tell me that I'm improving every gig. I'm Thankful.

One thing that I lost after the stroke was to "read and write". I had to be taught all over again. It was bad for a while. Because of this, I had to give-up working on the Zum Manual document.

Now, I'm better. I still have the original WordPerfect document. Maybe I'll go into it again and put out a next revision. If I do this, I WILL NEED Proof Readers.
