Rick....you better be there cause I'm depending on you to play with me on the show and keep me between the musical "guard rails". Also plan on singing some with me.

Those who have not heard this phenomenal musican are in for a treat. He should be playing steel and I should be playing bass, or better yet, sitting in the front row listening to him.

Reece....youre WAY too kind! I can't wait to try and tear down a couple "guard rails" with you at Jim's show. This is truly a great honor for me!!!!!

As far as all those nice things you said about me...I just wanna say that I've become painfully more aware every day about the loose ends in my overall grasp of the steel guitar. I can't wait to try and soak up some of your deep wisdom on your visit to the left coast.

Can't wait....

Jim -

By the responses you are getting for the show and lessons you might think about moving this whole event to Qualcomm stadium.

BTW, you did put me down for the show didn't you?

True- Rick can be a one-man show. Great to have him there playing in the band. I have you down for the concert, Jim- how many are you bringing? The conference room is plenty big for all who want to attend. Thanks for the words of encouragment Geoff- wish you were here, too- but there's enough water between us to maybe even give Jack LaLane a bit of a go!

I have sent confirmation e-mails to those indicating that they would like to attend Reece's class and the following concert with Reece, Jay Dee, and David. If you did not receive an e-mail from me and wish to attend the concert on Saturday, April 16th (the classes are now full), please let me know and we'll make arrangements for your attendance. Thanks-

Me too, Jim. The best of luck.

Looks to be a super event and venture.

Like many here on the least coast, I wish I could make it as well. And just not for the great music and comradarie, but some warm weather too.

Jim, maybe you can tell us a little bit more about the store. What brands of steels will you be carrying?

For pedal steels, I currently have in stock a ShoBud Pro II, a ShoBud "The Professional", a BMI double 10, a Sierra "Olympic" single 10 (black with gold anodized trim), an EMCI single 12, a revamped MCI/EMCI double 10, a Sierra 14, an Excel 12, a single 10 MSA lacquer, a 12 string MSA mica, a double 10 MSA 10 string SS, a ZB double 10, a soon-to-be-born MSA 12 string lacquer from NOS parts, a custom keyless 12 string that I built a couple of years ago, and a few others that I can't recall just yet. I also have a dozen or so amps, lots of effects, Geo L cables and strings, seats, volume pedals (Goodrich, Bigsby, Emmons, MSA, etc.), Peterson tuners, and accessories like picks, leg pouches, NOS cases, bars, tuning wrenches- typical stuff that a steel store should have. I also have several lap steels including Richenbacker, Kay, National, and a custom 12 string that I built as well as a few Dobros. I have yet to price all my inventory before the "Grand Opening" on the 16th as I've been busy setting up the shop, etc. but suppose I'd best be getting around to it soon .
I was just told by the hotel where the concert is going to held that the rooms they are holding for the attendees for $61 on Saturday night will be released for general reservations on April 8th so please make your reservations soon if you'd like to stay there.

Sounds like it's shaping up to be a fantastic event! So, Jim, what're y'all gonna be doing during the day Saturday afternoon, before the big concert Sat. night? Hangin' out at the shop and jamming? Ooh, I'm jealous; wish I could be there...
Have fun and, once again, congratulations!

The troops have started rolling in- Fran and Frank Carter pulled in last nite- had a nice day at the shop just messin' around- picking up Reece at the airport tomorrow morning- maybe get in some golf, "Big" Jim Baron, Jerry Pack, David Wright, and Jay Dee coming in tomorrow nite- our house is gonna be full of steelers- like fishermen- tellin the same old stories and worn-out lies and I wouldn't trade it for all the tea in China . The concert is sold out and about 20 folks on the waiting list but I'm tring to adhere to fire dept. regulations for the room with a capacity of 150. Gotta do something nice for Karen (my wife)for all she's doing to help...
Reece's classes are also full so unless we have another big earthquake (which is not all that unusual in So. Cal) we're gonna be hopping. Wish all you could be joining us. Finding out that there are a lot more steelers around here than I originally thought- already have about 6 months worth of work lined up (I'm not the fastest horse on the track) so I'm happy. Thanks for all the well wishes pards- I truly appreciate it.

What a great time.. Thanks Jim for a great learning experience. Reece's teaching approach is one of opening up the fret board and increasing your fretboard vocabulary by a unique visualization concept...very cool!

Reese played every lick that David ever showed him....and a bazillion more...
Thanks Reese..David...Jim ... JayDee... Frank...Rick and all else..
It was a very cool day...

I'm sorry I missed the great premier of Jim's steel store. Also missed seeing a great hero of mine, Reece. Fell in love with his fine playing and personallity 37 years ago next month when Tom Bradshaw put on the first West Coast Steel show in Napa May of '68.
Also missed seeing Jay Dee and Reece's little step-brother, David Wrightderson, haha. Maybe next time.
