Hi Bobby; I went back and read my first post, and I have to say I'm sorry if I came off questioning you knowing about wheather or not Paul has that change. I certainly didn't mean it that way and was not my intentions my friend. I was trying to say simply; that if he had that change(and obviously he does)>than he played it the way Jeff decribes; but I was also going along with other ways of playing the lick if one doesn't have that change; and not suggesting that Paul played it that way. I too believe in tabbing exactly the way a player plays something; and Jeff is waaaaaaay the "Man" on that. I wanted to give credit for the extreamly perfect ear Jeff has for this kinda stuff; and not take away from knowledge that you have or anyone else for that matter. I put Jeff on the Highest of High pedistols for his unselfish contributions of the countless "perfect" tabbing that he has supplied all steel players so frequently. Many take advantage of his great work, with almost no recognition of what they are getting for free; and in my book, Jeff is the elite of the elite. Actually here is how I play the lick(ha.. 1._________________ 2.__11~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3._________________ 4._________________ 5._________________ 6.__13b~~~~9~~~~13b 7._________________ 8._________________

on a completely RELATED topic: will a Zum do that drop? I think Paul Franklin Sr. is some sort of mechanical genius, because he continuously builds guitars that fit what Paul wants to do musically. I really want that change, but know bubkes about doing the mechanics of it myself. |

Les,I have wondered about this myself. Some of you Zum Boys try it.Just take your 6th string drop and move it to the top hole on the bellcrank, top hole(drop side) on the changer side and see where she goes. You might have to add a little travel to your knee-pedal as well. But maybe not---------bb[This message was edited by Bobby Boggs on 17 May 2001 at 01:43 PM.] |

I have a Emmons LeGrande and I have just put the change on the LKV.It works perfectly. The only thing you miss is the split tuning on the 6th string. You must unscrew that screw a bit, so that you can lower it the whole way to E. Greetings from the Netherlands Jack Hollenberg hollenberg001@planet.nl

Nice sound! I saved that intro, and stuck it right in my "Steel" folder. (Shows how simplicity is often the best approach.) |

Hi I am a bit late in this thread...but. Crowbear just played me Paul Franklin and Brent Mason over the telephone during a 3 hour PSG chat. Mind blowing. And to see that some one said a Sho-Bud should be able to do this same copedant makes me a very happy camper I don't expect to get his licks like that, but oh the possibilities. Very good discusion. |

i appreciate all and any help in finding the right changes and frets on any song that has special tunings and phrasing and it's good to have the person that recorded the licks to come on the forum and complement the person for finding the right strings/levers ,,etc. i say a hardy ''good job'' to anyone that can do this.
