Could one of you tinkerers help with the diameter of the pullrods on an Emmons Legrande? The welding shops don't seem to have exactly what I want. |

David, They are probably 7/64'th's. Sometimes hard to find. BB------------------ If you play 'em, play 'em good! If you build 'em, build 'em good!

Yes Emmons' LeGrandes use 7/64". Here is the story from the late Ron Lashley. (paraphrasing),"I went to a 7/64" rod from a 1/8" rod so we could use a 4-40 threader. While one can use a 4-40 threader on a 1/8" rod, they wear out much quicker. A 1/8" rod actually requires a 5-40 threader; and they are not as commonly available as 4-40's for do it yourselfers". carl |

Thanks guys, I didn't have a good measuring device handy so I could pin it down. As you've probably guessed, I was looking around locally for a cheap and easy source. It's been suggested that I ck. with Emmons Guitar and just get some long rod and cut it to size. |

What are the two rod sizes for Sho-Buds? Both inches and meteric if possible.Also the die or thread ratio used. At what year or models did this change size? Or were they too small and were rolled as Ed says? { It's nice to see Ed Naylor's post still being usefull here. He'd a liked that. }

David, You can get either just the plain rod in 36" lengths or cut to length from Emmons. Just let Ron know what you need. Erv |

I measured a rod on my LeGrande 3, and it's 0.1091 which is near enough to 7/64 to make no difference.I had been using a 5/40 die to thread the rods. I noticed that the threads weren't very deep, but I put it down to trying to thread stainless. I just threaded a geniune Emmons rod end into my 5/40 die and it flops around a bit. Now I see why the threads weren't deep. Conclusion: On my LeGrande 3 (2001 model) the rods are 7/64 and the threads are 4/40. Now I'm off to look for a 4/40 die. Live and learn, I guess. Charlie |
