When I first joined the Forum, a few years ago, biginners were warned away from the ZB guitars, because of their unusual mechanics. Lately, there seems to be an about face, maybe due to the ZB supporters becoming more vocal, I don't know.

Use the "Search" function of the Forum, and you should find tons of topics regarding these guitars. I had a student model back in the '70's, and it caused me to give up learning the steel, but I have since come to think that I just a bad one, having since heard a tape made with a student model, owned and played by Jody Cameron, that sounded like perfection, to my ears.

What I know from experience is: that they are very heavy, sound great, and require some educating to setup, and understand the mechanics underneath. When restored, they make a very beautiful instrument.

Take care,

Les

Todd, I have a ZB D10 Custom, now in the process of being overhauled. It has 11 pedals and 4 levers, (only the one lkr worked. when I get it back it will have five working levers and cleaned from top to bottom. I really enjoyed playing it even with just the one lever. Has all stainles steel changers. I like it's tone knob that my Zum does not have. Also has a volume control. It has as good of a tone as any I have heard (to my taste). There are several people who work on these for folks. Good luck, Earl

Todd,
ZBs are great guitars. Really one of the few guitars that has got it all looks, tone, playability. Fellow forumite and staff steeler at Renfro Valley "Greg Jones" is somewhat an authority on these fine instruments. He has a stock of parts and does a fine job at repairing and setting up old ZBs. Get in touch with Greg with any ??? he is "da-man" and a great guy as well.
