I wouldn´t quite agree, Ricky. It depends on the type of camera/lens that you use. I could probably do it, but then all of my photographic gear is just as analog/mechanic as my steels so it would take more time to convert it to a digital image...

Ricky, the guts in this one makes my all-pull S-10 Marlen look simple!! It sure is purdy! I have to be careful, I'm not sure I'm not turning into a Marlen collector!! James

A macro lens or a lens that has a macro mode will get you in real close.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.....

Check the user's manual for your camera. Many digital cameras have a macro feature built right in. I have one on mine, and didn't realize it until way later. It's just a push of a button if you have it.

Just a point of information.

I don't think Ricky has an interest in taking "before" shots. Why don't we just agree that, if you're going to send a guitar to Ricky, you should take the "before" shots yourself before you ship it??

WEll Joe; I played this Marlen with Heather Myles in Dallas last night and it is a "Winner"....>what a big beautiful authentic sound....My Gosh...she just Blows the doors off amost everything I've played...and I ain't jivin' you man....
Had to tighten a couple springs ...ha...>She's like a brand new car...>gotta break her in nicely...as all the parts haven't move together like this before...so break in period is about over...
After a couple adjustments on the break...she played PERFECT...and I'm in Glen Rose,Texas now and we go on at the Big Tommy Alverson Festival at 9pm right after Johnny Bush..yeee freeekin' haaaa.
And if I hang on to this Speedy West any longer after this weekend....>Joe; your gunna have to Pry it outta my Dead hands..ha.

I just got my guitar from Ricky, I had to let him break it in for me before shipping it. Man, you look at the underside of this guitar and it looks like the latest design of a mousetrap, how does it all stay together, I don't think I'll ever know, thank god we have Ricky to helps us out! Set it up, did some minor tuning to the open strings, plugged it in and I was floored. I've been so happy with my 2 old Sho-Buds, thinking that nothing could sound any sweeter than my '69 Professional, but this guitar truly does. The pickups are so smooth, but very articulate, have an incredible attack to them and are also the most forgiving pickups I've ever had even in a six-string. This guitar is incredible, thank you Ricky!

In addition to the amazing restoration service that Ricky provides, his threads and House of Wood provide a legacy for vintage wooden steels that are a working pieces of history. I'm sure that if Mr. Stadler were with us today, he would be overwhelmed at the appreciation of his work.

If you mentioned Marlen to me a year or so ago, I'd have thought of them as an obscure off brand. After seeing and reading about Marlens and Ricky's work on them, I learned that they are indeed fine guitars. If you recall, there was recent thread about one of the early or first Marlens, an 8 stringer.

Well, it found it's way to ebay.
Well, no matter how many cold showers I took, I couldn't help myself.

Howard; did you win that 8-string Marlen pal???....If you did; you got a Fine Steel...and I'm sure you've already heard one of the greatest sounds to ever come out of a Steel Guitar, if you've plugged her in already??
Let me know if I can be of any help at all...>questions; tuning; adjustments...etc....
...and thanks for the kind words on my passion for these Steel Guitars.

Yes, I did win that Marlen and will get back to that.

Not to hijack this thread, but this may be of interest to some;
