Come on folks! "banjo rolls"?

Why can't we call them something else.

Why not dobro rolls?

I'm going through some training materials and the licks I am supposed to learn are "banjo rolls". This is a steel guitar course. Where's the steel guitar rolls? Don't they have any?

Sheeesh!

OK, where's my medication?

Royce Rolls, Hay Rolls, Screen Roles. By whatever name they still work.

I suspect they are called banjo rolls because they were being done well before the dobro or steel was invented.

Well Terry, I think the "Banjo Agenda" is going to have to do "Baby Steps" instead of a Blitzkrieg.

We just got a notable amount of steel players to admit that they own and play one.

I was glad to "stand up" with the rest that perhaps uneasily "came out".

I hope I can support further inroads to "Banjo Acceptance", but I must warn that I don't want to endanger long held alliances with Banjo Haters, and Banjophobes in positions of Power.

I, like a few others of the recent "Closet Banjors" that "came out" on the last Banjo String have a lot to lose from just taking these recent steps.

I know you understand and are sensitive to "Our Position".

For now, I'm afraid I'll have to go along with the Status Quo. I hope you don't think less of me.

For now, it's still "Banjo Rolls" around my neighborhood..

'Cause telling a lie would serve no purpose?

Seriously, they were developed by banjo players. (But you knew that already, didn't you?)

OK, I admit to owning a banjo. And I am a bluegrass player on guitar and mandolin. But I don't pick the banjo. I clawhamer it like my grandad did.

I think I'll write me a steel guitar clawhammer tune!

To express it in a more simple way:
The purpose of b@njo rolls is to show the b@njo pickers that we can play that stuff too!

...they are called that because they liken only to that same sound that is created when a banjo goes rolling end-over-end at a high revolution per minute down the side of a Rocky Mountain

Sorry. I did indeed Come Out with my Banjuality, but I've still got a foot in the Closet.

Clawhammer... hmm,
I always thought that's what wives use on steelers who have bought one too many steels.

Seems about right!

I have a banjo. I put it on the dash of my truck so I can use the handicap spaces at Wal-Mart...

The secret to rolling a banjo is to find a really steep hill. Otherwise the neck stops it.

Chris,

A banjo is kinda like a hand grenade, by the time you hear either one it is too late!
