Well I just had to post this as my friend Jeff Surratt just sent me these awesome pics of a Custom made LDG he did.
The Body is Custom cabinet made/fade stained as a replacement Body to the original; by Jeff Surratt and A.J. Nelson and Duane Marrs. The tail-plate and key-head are original as are the raise/lower sections of the fingers. The Triple raise/double lower; which is the best ratio on any changer Sho~Bud made. Duane Marrs replacement finger tops and complete undercarriage is done with Perfection by Jeff. The wood is what Marrs Music gets from the folks who provide the same wood to Gibson, There in the Nashville/Madison Area.
This is what they can do to or for any Shobud and this is just PART of what they do there at Marrs Music....WOW.
I only wish I was there working with these Masters of Steel guitar Construction/Retoration/Upgrading/Designers of anything STEEL GUITAR.

This is why I own a Marrs/Surratt Custom Shop Sho-Bud Professional. The tone out of these guitars is incredible, and the looks speak for themselves. These have been some of the best kept secret guitars in Nashville. I don't think it will be that way very much longer. Thanks for this post Ricky. I know how much you appreciate their work. Its like owning a Masserati. 615-868-5344. Thanks everyone for the nice compliments. We can take a little extra time and make improvements since we don't "mass produce" guitars. If a cabinet is in need of replacement we can do it with a good serial number on the end-plate and body. I carefully hand-pick every piece of wood as in this case. The new Marrs proto-type cabinet I did for Duane this week. We are considering interchangable wood to aluminum necks at 24" and 241/4" scale. I really like the 24" scale tone and Duanes personal guitar will have it when I finish in the near future. This is a practice guitar for me and just haven't had the heart to cover up the wood with a pad. Our site also has a Super Pro custom body Duane and I did for Larry Campbell. His had been under water in Norway and was beyond repair so we started over, but did save the necks. It is the natural one Larry is playing under "our clients", see www.duanemarrs.com. At 81 I believe AJ Nelson's finishes just keep getting better and better. I have never been dissatisfied. We're lucky we've got him. He and Margaret are precious good caring folks,too. I seen the guitar Jeff speaks of that was under water. One day he was ironing (like ironing your shirt but instead the guitar body) one of the old cabinets from an old Sho-Bud. He said he could get it back to straight and he really did too! The work these guys do is really something else, the best I've seen and only ten minutes from my house!Check out the 71 Emmons of mine on Rickys site and there's another example of the great work A J Nelson does on wood guitars. You can't tell by the pictures but Jeff and Duane took that guitar and added two more knee levers to make it a 9/8 guitar. Thing about is this is an Emmons p/p not a Sho-Bud. Duane makes a few more comments and faces when he works on my Emmons guitars but there's no loss of workmanship at all. They do equally good work on the old p/p's from start to finish. |

Ricky, thanks for posting those beautiful pictures. I also have an LDG with rounded front and rope inlay refinished and rebuilt by Duane, Jeff, and A.J. It has triple raise, double lower, with Marrs undercarriage, great sustain and incredible tone. Is that a cat under the chair? |

The LDG Mr.VanHoose now has I completely did a couple of years ago for the Original LDG. It was the most intensive work I have ever done, and the most exceptional "in my opinion." AJ did do the finish and Dan Dugmore has a matching Fluger resonator from the same stain. After years of experimenting AJ has a formula that is more brilliant and won't fade like the Sho-Bud's so often do.Those who have seen Jerry's guitar come in raving about it. I hope it brings years of enjoyment.Jerry I'd sure love it for my album cover some day. Yes, that is my wife's cat "Shadow" Duane rescued and gave to her as a kitten, along with four others abandoned at a park where he walks.Jay the rug we found near our house on Gallatin Rd in Madison where a guy set's up every once in a while. They go fast and he held one back for Gloria, my wife. It was only 45.00. It goes well in my music room or "Lloyd Green" shrine. Thanks Ricky for the post. Jeff |

I have to endorse what everyone else has said about this beauty. I like it just fine without the pad too. I just wish I lived in Nashville - my LDG would be taken to Mr Marrs' premises as fast as the speed limit would allow. Oh well, one can dream.KB |

--------------------Larry Campbell borrowed my LDG hours after his steel ended up in a river over here in 1986. He sure made my LDG "sing"
