Hysteresis occurs in capacitors. inductors, magnets, rubber, and it's rather hysterical when it happens too. (i.e. B-H Curve in magnetics) Long word to say that a thing don't go back to where it started from....[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 11 February 2004 at 02:52 PM.] [This message was edited by Ray Minich on 11 February 2004 at 02:53 PM.] |

I should have stated, in my reference to hysteresis, that the "failure to return" is not the string's fault and is not hysteresis of the string. It is the failure of the roller nut to move back to its original position. Using the word hysteresis is mis-labeling the problem on pedal steels. It should have been called, "nut roller failure." Ball bearing nut rollers remove this problem and even a lot of pedal steels don't have this problem even if they don't have ball bearing nut rollers. You can change one nut roller from one string to another and the problem may not occur on the string that was not returning properly. Oh yuk; enough of this. |
