Solution i discovered several years ago.contact cement a thin strip of 320 wet or dry paper around the finger pick that contacts you finger. It works. |

I use the red picks that the guy who makes the red rajah bars makes, specifically because they don't slip off. I've not noticed any dofference in the tone they produce. |

I've found a dab a Gorilla Snot is quite helpful in keeping the fingerpicks from slipping & and the thumbpicks from spinning.I don't usually need it, but I keep a little jar with me for the occassional need. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040522070411170250001001642674/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/428010/ |

Sorry for stretching out the window with that last post - any way to avoid that? |

Chris, you can use the alternate form of listing a URL with UBB Code. Instead of listing the lengthy link as the clickable URL, you can just have something like the text "Click here" be clickable. You can read all the details here. |

My wife buys an inexpensive package of womens false fingernails (I won't do it because I don't like the strange looks I get)which comes with thin double sided precut tape. I then remove one side and place the strips inside all my picks, then remove the other side with a sharp edge knife. The result is, they will continue to stick for quite sometime, and you can't shake them off your fingers. |

Pitch off any evergreen works. I've used it many times and when I found a good glob of it I put it in a strin envelope. Drier is better.IN the last year or so I've used super glue, but you have to be careful. It can cause cancer in the state of California. EJL |

I agree. The price is right, you can't leave home without it, it's right there when you need it, and you don't have to worry about running out of it. I find that people in the audience are very thoughtful and considerate. They realize when my picks are slipping because they contribute a lot of spit in my direction! |

This is about the fifth post I've seen on this subject, but I'll add the same 2 cents I always do. Get some eyeglass nosepad cushions from your local Walgreens and stick 'em on the inside of the picks. Not only do they keep the picks on, they keep that hard metal away from your cuticles. I tried this a couple years ago and won't use anything else.------------------ Ken Drost steelcrazy after all these years

This may come as a surprise but I dampen my fingers just before putting the finger picks on. Works for the thumb pick too. [This message was edited by Buddy Emmons on 23 May 2004 at 02:56 AM.] |

Buddy's got it. I noticed at the SWSGA convention in January that the pros stuck their fingers in their mouth and put the picks on. I learned something new then after over 40 years of this instrument taking up room in my house. |

Lloyd - ain't that alcohol abuse...? Or at least pretty close. LOL. Would a Pina Coalada stick better than a Dry Martini? (Excuse me, Lloyd! I just couldn't resist!) Anders |

Have anyone tried these picks? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040523030208213065130065864440/g=guitar/search/detail/base_pid/110630/ I guess that they will stay on better. Anders

I use John Pearse "Pick Stuff" - it's a wax like substance you just rub it on your finger tips and there is no way those picks will come off. It's a bit like the stuff lawn bowlers use to grip their balls !!!!!

Avoid using the liquid hand soaps that have any kind of lotion in them. I wash my hands with Lava soap before playing. Never have any problems after that.Thanx, Jim |

Hi Richard, I was just informed by a friend of yours that you don't play Pedal Steel, so this really belongs in NO PEDDLERS.(I had origanally moved this from EVENTS AND ANNOUNCMENTS.) So I'm moving it again, this time to NO PEDDLERS. Sorry for my mistake, you sure got some great responses though. Joey |
