Hi all, After years of using a 12-string bar (and playing a 12-string steel), I have recently moved to a 10-string bar to play my 10-string steel.....and I find the bar to be very uncomfortable. I have gone back to my 12-string bar, and it feels much better to me, even though it may be a bit longer than necessary for its purpose. Sooo.....just curious if anyone else does this! Joe |

Hi, Joe. Always have, always will. Although now the bar I use is 1/16" shorter than a 12 str. bar. But I used the same Sho-Bud 12 str. bar sold to me by George Lewis back in probably '69, could've been '68. Used it until '99. Forgot to take it out of the case when I sold my steel back then. |

Ha, I do just the opposite. I've played D-12's for over 30 years. I've tried bigger and longer bars and always come back to a 7/8" 10 string bar.Slants just don't feel right with bigger bars, and I can get closer to Buddy's bar twirl (not there yet) with this size bar. ------------------ Jim Smith jimsmith94@comcast.net -=Dekley D-12 10&12=- -=Fessenden D-12 9&9=- -=Emmons D-12 push pull 9&9=- Stereo Steel rig w/Boss GX-700 IVL SteelRider w/JV-1080 |

I have a 7/8th double ended Twister bar, which seems the best of both worlds. Works on a 12, and no probolem for size on a 10. |

I'm with the other DD. I use a double-ended 10-string bar on my 12-string uni. The rear bullet nose slides on and off the low strings without catching. Never had a need for playing the 1st and 12th strings at the same time, but I have a 12-string Twister just in case. |

I have been playing a Dunlop 12 string stainless sitar bar for most of the past 30 years on my D10 guitars. In fact, I had my machinist friend to hollow out one end of one of my 12 string bars. It makes the bar lighter and does give it a little different tone. So, I keep a solid 12 string sitar bar, a hollow 12 string sitar bar and a 10 string BJS bar beside me when I play.[This message was edited by Vann Cranford on 04 September 2004 at 04:58 PM.] [This message was edited by Vann Cranford on 04 September 2004 at 04:59 PM.] |

I'm not sure if he still does, but; Paul Franklin was using a 12-str. bar, according to Paul Sr.. ------------------ “Big John” Bechtel (2)-Fender ’49–’50 T–8 Customs Fender ’65 Reissue Twin-Reverb Custom™ 15” click here click hereclick hereclick here |

I bought a 12 string bar when I had a U12. I just kept on using it when I went to a D10. Now a regular 10 string bar just feels too short. Guess it's all a matter of what you get used to. |

Like Jim Smith, I use a 10-string bar on a D12. The extra length of the longer bar hampered important blocking I do with my middle finger on descending runs and scales, the finger extends past the bar nose and kills picked strings as I pull the bar back. |
