I know Bill Ray was at his house shop just 2 weeks ago, he builds a nice guitar, modeled after the show bud with piping on front. He makes all the parts that go on it including pedals, all the alum. work, has his own line of strings/ He has three beauties in his show room, Two single and D10.and the price is right.
Hew is in Jacksonville, Phone William Ray on Forest Blvd, Jax Fl. Bill just celebrated his 79th birthday three Sat. ago.
nice guy very reliabe to deal with.

I read this forum and silently suffer through all sorts of spelling errors, grammatical errors, misplaced punctuations, etc. I just grit my teeth and bear it.
But to have a forum with a good portion dedicated to the *pedal* steel guitar and to see it spelled as *peddle* really needs a comment.
Hey!
PEDAL is what you push with your feet.
PEDDLE is the act of selling something, i.e., he tried to peddle a bum pedal steel to me.

Please! Some spelling respect for the instrument!

Hey lighten up on the guy!..He's new to the world of pedal steel and make no mistake about it.. He is a fan!..
A simple correction would have sufficed...no
need to take it personally... geez!

Hey Brian!.. As long as you continue to host New Jerseys' "only" peddle steel club you can spell it any way you want as far as i'm concerned

When I lived in Jax back in the early 90's I met Ray. He was a super nice guy and from what I remember of the steel I played it was pretty decent. But of course that was a long time ago and even though I have a good memory it's getting shorter every day.

Look at the "Rayline" steel guitar on my website,(www.steelguitar.net) it is beautiful, and a great deal for what it is. A lot of steel for $699.00. Click on "other guitars" icon.
Would make the perfect steel guitar for a young player that doesn't want a student guitar but doesn't want to pay for an expensive pro model either.

and while you're at it keep a look out for those who do not know how to use commas full stops and exclamation marks and such and don't use a capital i when they mean themselves that can be very annoying don't you all agree well i think so anyway

Not To Mention Those Starting Every Word With A Capital Letter!

I guess we should all be happy that we live in such a great country that we have the time and the energy to get so upset over how a nubbie spells pedalsteel. I did not mean any "disrespect" to the instrument. Thanks for the civil comments.Brian

hey Brian- I believe that's spelled "newbie"; a "nubbie" is something else, and I'm not sure it's appropriate in mixed company

Is this Grammer or Spelling Forum or Steel Guitar Forum? Correcting someone for spelling is the next thing to calling them stupid. What does it matter? We all know what he means.

Not that I want to add to the off topic portion of this thread (well, actually I do), but common courtesy for each other is what I expect to see on this forum. It is OK to disagree on things, but to get on someone for a spelling mistake (only 1 that I see in the title - which I didn't really notice until it was mentioned) is really not in good taste. BUT... The common courtesy should also be extended to the readers of the posts by the people writing them. Would you like reading a book that had every 3rd word misspelled, had no punctuation, or WAS WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS? Me neither. We should all make the effort to spell correctly, use punctuation as it should be used, and not type in all capital letters. I don't know about others, but when I see a post with a lot of misspellings (not talking about an occasional word here and there), no punctuation or all caps, I tend not to read the post (they tend to give me a headache).

I just think we should all try to make the posts as easy to read as possible.

Now, let's get back to the original topic and give this man the info he wants. I know nothing about the Rayline.

How about getting on someone for making a good faith contribution to clearer communications?

Somehow I can't see a guy like Winnie doing this for the hell of it.

In all fairness... there is a forum on the Forum called "No Peddlers",a play on words that b0b presumably enjoyed. Most of us make an effort to make our posts sensible and grammatical. I do, and yet, there are those times that I see my mistakes only after I hit "Submit Reply". So, I think a certain amount of forbearance is in order. I would also comment that I am extremely impressed with the superb command of English that our members from Europe and elsewhere exhibit. I speak German- but not to the extent that I'd be comfortable posting on a German Forum about... anything. I think a little slack is in order, assuming that people are putting forth their best effort to be clear. I'm not real thrilled with the ALL CAPS posts- they're really hard to read. I don't bother with them. But, in general, the info is more important to me than the presentation.

Folks, does this look like a cranky curmudgeon?
http://julianwinston.com./music/images/feet.jpg

But seriously, Winnie, although it does seem like some people could try a little harder when they type messages (I wish some of the people with whom I do business would!), obviously some can't, and others just don't want to -- it's some kind of style statement, or self expression, for them. However, it's hard to criticize the ones who won't without hurting the feelings of those who can't.

O.K. I have been watching these posts in disbelief. Let me start out by saying I am an awful speller. I am lost without spell check for the most part, that being said let me tell you a little bit about myself, I have a degree in music and own a company that has 18 employes, I deal with many different types of people every day,I am new to the forum and I love it, I log on to escape,if you will. I have met great people from here. But when I read that someone "suffers in silence" or "it makes my teeth hurt" What? you suffer because of peddle vs pedal.I think my question was clear, I wanted info on a brand of guitar. There has been 26 posts, about 5 of which have been about the actual topic."Suffer in silence"some of you guys should start a drama club.I have only posted about 40 times, and somtimes in my excitment about a given topic I may leave words out or have typo's etc..In this case it was peddle for pedal.I do know the difference between the two words....it was a MISTAKE (and yes I meant to use caps)I have noticed sometimes on the forum, and in life for that matter, that if someone is great at what they do(their profession)they will be let off the hook for everything, i.e. being rude, or nasty. I think my original question was completly clear (even with peddle instead of pedal)So thats it,and please don't give me, this person or that person is so great they can correct me anytime about anything. Just because someone is great on their instrument does not give them license to be insulting or rude. Its because of that kind of logic that O.J. is playing golf in FLA. And do not email me that I am comparing any one here to OJ, I am not I am merely giving an example of where that kind of thought process can take you.I am sure I have not heard the end of this, but thats my thoughts. Thanks to all that actually responded on topic,it did help me. Brian, for what it's worth -- don't let it get to you. Nearly every thread has at least one doozy of a spelling mistake in it (not that your's was a doozy). Heck, I can't speak for anyone else, but maybe Winnie was having a bad day, or maybe he was trying to be a bit humorous -- HAHA, Hehe, heh . . . heh . . . ehhhhhh . . . eh hem. Anyway, for sure one thing ya gotta look out for are those references to controversial topics that have nothing to do with steel guitar. By the way, now that we're on the topic of OJ -- the reason he's playing golf now is because every one of the members of the jury for his criminal trial was a smooth-brained moron.

-- edited for spelling -- heh heh

I think it would help us all if b0b would implement a feature that allowed us to edit the topic lines of the threads we start. Who hasn't ever been embarassed by a typo there that hung around for weeks?!

Brian, the rest of your posting is as well-written as anyone could desire, and it is always a pleasure to scan this site and read comments that people have made an effort to put across that well -- at least as long as people aren't getting angry and lashing out at each other. It's just too bad that you happened along at the point that Winnie felt he had seen enough of the careless brain farting with which some people waste bandwidth. He and others have put a tremendous effort, for a long time (in Winnie's case, since long before there was a forum, or an internet), into sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience. I can see how they, or anyone, could feel offended by posts that trivialize and dilute such treasure. I just get tired of scrolling over them.

On the other hand, this forum also houses a community, in a unique and wonderful way, and it ought to be okay for people to just come in and say "yo Homer howzzit?" or "dang, how you mash them peddles?" if they want to -- maybe there should be another part of the forum set aside for that. (Hey, b0b, how about calling it "bar chatter...?")

Hey Cartwright, Thats what I'm sayin, ooopps I mean saying. As far as Rayline, if you are interested, one of our more helpful members told me to do a search for rayline on the forum, (I am new and have never done that)I came up with about 35 threads that were helpful. Although I did have to "suffer"through some spelling errors in a few of them. People seem to respect these guitars, I ended up getting a Rayline from Bobbie seymour. I just mailed payment but I will give y'all( there I go again,I mean you all)my impressions. Thanks, Brian
