I know little about this gadget. The only Steel Player I've ever seen use one was Buddy Emmons. The EBow sat on the strings, straddling one, thereby 'driving' that string sound. Lead players hold the EBow in their picking hand. Are there two different models or are they all the same? Thanks for your input. bUd |

Ebow once made a two string steel model, but they're very rare. If you find one let me know. Pretty much all of them are one-stringers. The early chrome model turned on and of automatically. The newer models are made cheaper, but they're much more powerful in getting the strings going. The recent models have a second switch position that generates the octave of the note you're fretting. I have the ebow for guitar that has the second position for a harmonic that Brad mentioned. It works on my PSG, but was really made for most standard 6 string electrics (or acoustics). There are 2 "channels" that the 2 strings on the outside of the one you want to vibrate sit in for a solid positioning. On my PSG (a GFI and I would assume most modern PSGs) the string spacing is closer and the "channels" don't sit exactly right, but it does work OK. I've only fooled a bit with it on the PSG. It's a neat device. I was surprised when I tried it on an acoustic guitar with no pickup. It worked. I thought that the vibration had to do with the pickup being a sort of magnet, but I found out that it works without a pickup as well. The double string one for PSG sounds interesting.Bob P. |

I've been looking for one of those 2-string E-Bow models for ages. I have the guitar version. It's good but like Bob said, it doesn't match the string spacing of a pedal steel. I've heard that only 200 of the steel guitar E-Bows were made, and that many of those (perhaps half?) were defective. Mike Perlowin has one but he refuses to sell it to me!
