I'm watching this auction on ebay (3764718396) and was wondering...is there such a thing as an 8 or 10 string Lap Steel that looks like this, not like a regular guitar but styled like a pedal steel? Also, what do you think of the 8-string lap steels? I can't imagine carrying around my Carter-Starter, so I'm interested in a good but small carryable lap steel. Any opinion on any lap steels will be much appreciated. Thanks. |

eBay showed an older 13-14 string lap steel just the other day; possibly a vintage Gibson. There have been several 10-string Bakelite Rickenbachers on eBay as well. Is the number of strings one has, somewhat like the game boating enthusiasts play, ie.. "Mine is longer than yours"; same with RV trailers....... What is it you plan to do with all those strings? Jerry Byrd made his successful career with a six stringer; then a seven stringer......... Just a thought....... |

Hi, Leila, there is and there are... ebay turns up 10 string Eddie Alkire E-Harps from time to time, and some of them are very nice. I recently sold a Cougar 10 string lap steel, which was pretty much the neck of a pedal steel with a bit more body on it. You might check in with Mike Cass and see if he's making any more of these beauties: http://www.calsharp.com/music/Cass/index.html They're out there... lurking...------------------ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

Duane Birdwell uses a 9 string non-pedal steel and I believe Billy Robinson plays a 10 string Derby non-pedal steel. Both of them are on legs. Gere |

I have a white 10 string lap steel I use mainly for autographs of steel players. It does have legs and an illuminated fret board. I just don,t have a lap. |

I have a 1949 Rickenbacker 10 string lap steel. It has a cast iron neck and bakelite body. Sounds good. Rick |

Thanks everybody!Bob, I'm looking at your Hawaiian Model and its a good looking instrument. Is it strictly for playing Hawaiian music? What kind of Amps are you playing your samples through. Its sure a pure clear nice tone. I like the 2nd sample best Leila |
