I have met an older gentleman here in town that has an MSA Red Baron. It does not have the individual tuners at the end of the guitar for all the pedal and lever pulls. It does have an allen wrench screw on each string at the end of the guitar. We cannot get the 10th string to pull properly. My question is, "Do you tune the strings with the pedals down and then tune the strings with the allen wrench screwheads?" Is this guitar similar to the Emmons push-pull setup? We have tried to adjust the strings at the end of the guitar bit cannot get the 10th string to tune to the proper pitch. We also cannot get the knee lever to pull the 8th string properly as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This gentleman plays a non-pedal guitar but is considering buying a late model pedal steel.

I am not an expert with keyless tuners but...
I suspect that the tuning allen screw you are adjusting
is tightened in too far, when the string is clamped..

Back it up / lower in pitch a good ways, loosen the string and then re-clamp it without the slack,
and then see if it will tune up.

This an educated guess, but logical.
I am sure a past MSA owner will log on.

Also send an email to Reece Anderson directly.
He will be glad to help.

The Red Baron is a student guitar with single fingers, and is not keyless. It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure it tunes pretty much like an Emmons.

For the 10th string raise, tune the raise with the tuning key and the open pitch with the Allen screw at the end. For the 8th string lower, tune the open pitch with the tuning key and the lower with the Allen screw.

Thanks guys for the reply. When we tune the 10th string with pedals down we cannot get the 10th string to tune with the allen wrench head on the end of the steel. The screw comes completely off the finger and will never tune to the proper pitch.

Check your string gauge. Should be .038 on string 10.
