My '72 P/P chrome legs are getting pretty rusty> Whats the best way to restore rusty chrome if that possible? thanks |

I would try some automotive chrome polish, and a lot of elbow greese first. It has a light abrasive in it for dirt removal.
Unfortunantly the best cure is to prevent it by using Johnsons paste wax, or a good automotive wax on them every so often for the life of the guitar.

Spit on the leg and then rub them with a piece of aluminum foil. You will be amazed!!------------------

I'm no metallurgist, but it is my understanding that chrome does not rust. Rust spots on a steel guitar leg suggest that the chrome is pitted and beginning to flake off, leaving the steel exposed, which will then rust. So I am afraid there is nothing you can do, short of re-chroming (expensive) or purchasing new legs.I have the same problem on all four legs of my '69 Emmons S-10. For years, they were packed in the case without a leg pouch and bumped into each other, causing the chrome to flake off. I have new legs on order. Rainer

Rainer is right. If there's rust it's because the chrome has flaked off.
Re chroming is the best, though you could polish the legs shiny and add a coat or two of clear metal laquer (Not so resistent as the chrome though - you'll definetely need a bag keeping the legs seperate). ------------------

Have them powder coated. There are colors now that closely resemble chrome plating. It will cost you far less than buying mic stands, cutting them to the right length, then re-installing the threaded "slugs" from your old legs into the mic stands (but I've done this many times). |

I wish I could rechrome my legs or something. I have arthritis (I'm only 36) and doc put me on 15mg of Mobic everyday. I hurt all the time.------------------
