Randy....I'm happy to try to help you, but to do so I'll need a valid serial number. You might try lightly tracing it with a pencil. |

There should be a number and a letter in front of the four digits, Randy, like 2C1103. Then you'd have the full serial number. If it is 2C1103, your guitar would date to late June '73. Reece can probably give you more specifics. |

Randy....2C1103 shows to be a black double 10 which left the factory with 8 pedals and 2 knee levers. It was originally shipped direct from MSA to Caruthers Music. (location unknown) This was done at the request of our distributor at the time. (CMI) Your guitar will be 32 years this month. It was born on May 21st 1973. I appreciate your being so proud of your MSA as to inquire about it. I'm delighted to know it has found a great home. |

There's a place in L.A. called Carruther's with 2 Rs. Could it be the same place? |

I have an old MSA D-11 that actually has the date stamped on it. It's a 1966 9 x 2 with wooden keyheads. It has a unique changer. With pedals down you tune the with the tuning keys and with no pedals you tune the endplate. It plays nice and seems to stay in tune. It has brass saddles. When was the first MSA built? DZ |

In the earlier '70s there was a music store in Pasadena, Texas named Caruthers Music then owned by Houston steeler Fred Heine. I remember one Saturday morning in the fall of 1972 my parents took me to that store to hear Reese play while he was there promoting MSA guitars. It was that morning they purchased my first pedal steel guitar. I was 18 then - time flies. Do you remember playing there Reese? Mike....yes I remember that day very vividly. Fred was a good friend, and one of the first to start selling the production model MSA. It's gradifying to know that possibly my being there that day contributed in some small way to you're enjoyment and happiness over these years. Thank you so much for remembering. |
