John, you said "if everyone liked the same thing,it would be like grandpa said, everybody would be after grandma and that would cause some mighty big problems."

Hey, I don't see any problems with that!

As for reaching over the pad to play, I did try out a few guitars with the 'small' (skinny) pads at the Dallas show just so I could see if the pad might 'get in the way'. I didn't really think they did. I'll know for sure when mine gets here. I didn't even try the ones with the full double pads. I sort of liked the idea of having a surface to anchor onto.

Although some like the pads and some don't, I look forward to coming back and giving a 'personal' opinion myself after I've gotten mine. I'm so used to my single w/o pad Carter-starter, I hope I find the pad serves me well instead of being a hindrance. I sure don't need any more hindrances.

If i wanted the extra weight, i would buy a double 12, only string one neck...but for a different take on this my double hernia steel playing friends...My guitar is heavier then most 12 string singles..also i hate to keep mentioning this mans name in every post....But Curly Chalker played MOSTLY C6th..and what did he do? he put his MOST USED C6th tuning..on the TOP neck! i asked Reece about this..since he built most of Curly's MSA's...only thing Curly said about it..was he liked his neck that he played most..right on top of his feet...makes scense to me...and as far as knee levers are concerned..i told the man who built my steel..where ..I....wanted them!..he put them there!
