This might be old hat to players with may years behind the pedals, but might be helpful to other new guys. Since one neck of my Pro II Custom is down (C6) as I wait for a set of John Coop's Superfingers, I thought I would go over what I could to tune up my guitar. The roller nut looked clean, but some rollers did not turn easy. I worked the pin out (up) from side to side. Using a little bit of Simichrome, I cleaned inside the base for the rollers. Get the rag into the slot, back and forth. Also cleaned individual rollers. Q-tips helped(note dirt from a roller that looked clean). Pulling it back, the same way I took it off. I put a small drop of oil on each roller. All rollers now spin freely. An easy fix that you might not know you need. Thanks to John Coop for pointing me in this direction.[This message was edited by Joseph De Feo on 26 July 2005 at 04:04 AM.] |

Yup. I did the rollers on my E9 neck about a week ago. Just as you said, dirt everywhere. And since then the part of the string between the roller and tuning key on 5 and 6 doesn't sound so dissonant.Does anyone make gauged rollers for Emmons guitars? Charlie |

This is a smart man. Some teels have been rejected as bad for this very problem. If you are not doing this once a year on your guitar you are asking for trouble. Steel guitars HAVE to be maintenanced! |
