Randy - Del built my guitar for me in about 1995 or so. It's pre-Royal Precision; however, I can't imagine how it would need any more precision than it's already got. It's a wonderful guitar.------------------ Lee, from South Texas Down On The Rio Grande Mullen U-12, Evans FET-500, Fender Steel King |

Randy i have a 1995 D-10 and it's by far the most favorite guitar that i've owned.i've never got to try a royal precision but i don;t see how it could be any better playing than mine is.(now if i could only learn how to really play it!!) |

Hi Gang My 03 Royal Precision can be played with no shoes here at home.Stays in tune. The new Emmons D-10 needs tuning always, and I let all students play to break it in.Shoes a must!!!!Bill Mayville |

probably would not make Herby sound any better than if he were on a Maverick with 3&1, when your good, your good on all of em!! Herby is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of hearing play the steel.Ernie ------------------

I've had both and there are some things I prefer about the RP I play now. I like the anodized fingers, and have had less string breakage. The sustain above the 15th fret is noticably better, but that could just be a variable between specific guitars, rather than the model. I really love this guitar- way to go Dell n Mike!------------------ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

I have a 94 Mullen Lacquer w/wood necks, thats the best guitar I have ever owned, I did get a new mica & aluminum necks RP in 2000, that had, no where near the tone of my 94, I dont like the slotted string roller fingers either, I'll take the pinned fingers instead, less string breakage, I did check out one of Herbys Mullens, & I see where he's coming from! au |

Mike Manley (I hope that is the correct name) who works for Mullen listed the differnces between the HWP and Royal Precision and also noted the differences between the current production model and earlier ones. A search should find it. |

Randy, While I am neither an accomplished steel player or an authority on the construction of the steel guitar, I have a couple of questions to be considered. (1) Why would Mullen Guitar Co. make a model to be sold by Herby Wallace Productions if they considered it superior to their own Royal Precision model? or (2) Why would Herby Wallace want the pre Royal Precision model for him to both play and sell if he thought the Royal Precision model was better or as good? After all he has played both and would certainly have that choice. |

I have a pre RP, and have tried it against the RP.I found little or no difference in tone or sustain.I did not like the finish on the pedal rack of the RP, much preffered the chrome finish on mine.RP was a little lighter(not a bad thing at my age) but more than happy with my Mullen.Tried it out against a friend's Zum , and found them to be very similar, both fantastic guitars.------------------ Mullen D10,Peavey Nashville 400,Peavey Profex, Peavey DPC 750, Nashville cabs [This message was edited by Malcolm McMaster on 23 November 2005 at 10:00 AM.]

As I understand it, yes, the pre-RP is the same as the HWP. |
