I use .044 aned .052. You'll have to see what you like.

The differences are pretty darn subtle.

b0b's right. A difference of 0.002 is 17% of the diameter of an 0.012 gauge string, 10% of the diameter of an 0.020 guage string, but is only 4% of the diameter of an 0.050 gauge string.
