I would like to try this setup on a 10 string with 6 and 5 or 5 and 5. How would you suggest setting up the changes? What would you use for string one and ten? I would suggest C# for 1 and B for 10. I think this could be a very nice set up for ten strings. Russ[This message was edited by Russ Tkac on 04 March 2006 at 01:16 PM.] |

Russ - if you search the old threads there's a note about Pete's old MSA (he's had several steels given to him over the years but stayed with various permutations of his 400). It was exactly the same as I recall on 1-8, with strings 9 and 10 having no changes. Can't recall how those two strings were tuned. so basically, he had his 8-string with two lower strings - that's it. |

Thanks Jim,I was thinking more of a universal set up with six pedals and the five knee levers. I tuned my back neck on my ZB with this B6 and it sounds great. I need pedal one and two so I have the E9 pulls but was wondering about the 6th pulls. I would put pedal 4 on a knee lever. Russ |

by the way, my fender buddies, i spent last evening with tommy spurlock who has an old 400(silver with the small fender logo), 2 jazzmaster pickups, sneaky's exact copedant 9+2 but converted from cable to rods. i then witnessed him play the sh%t out of it with a band called "the dead string brothers" at the knitting factory in nyc. an eye, ear opening and mind blowing experience plus we noshed on dover sole prior. sneaky's legacy is in amazing hands |

That sounds cool - Tommy's setup is the same as the one I'm working on, except mine is staying with cables.BTW - I got the changer out of mine, and the adjustment loops...but there's a metal plate the adjusting screws go into that looks like it has springs on the other side. It appears that my other body (the two-pickup one) dosn't have that, so I need to transfer it to the other guitar. But I have no clue how to get the plate/screws/springs out. anybody know what I'm talking about, and if so, have any idea how to do it? I have a full set of instructions for removing/remounting the changer, but that little detail wasn't included. I'm stalled until I get it solved. |

Ed,That's cool! I sent Tommy an email and he suggested calling to discuss the rod conversion. I would like to see/hear what that’s all about. So Ed...How about my 10 string B6 uni? Any thoughts or are you selling the Whitney and adding rods to that Fender? Russ

Just for fun...here is my latest 400 before cleanup and after: I have the pedals, rods and cables for the other three pedals...still working on the knee levers. [This message was edited by Russ Tkac on 04 March 2006 at 04:59 PM.]

Russ-I sent you an Email with a good E9/B6 setup for your guitar. I would put and E on the 8th string instead of F#, to give bottom to the E9 and also subdominant Emaj7 on lower strings...al------------------ My Website..... www.cmedic.net/~almarcus/

Jim, I think you might have to take the body out of the frame to get to the screws. The screws that hold the plate with the screws/springs/loops are covered by the lip of the frame that the body rests on. You should be able to keep the whole screw/spring/loop assembled. I took mine apart but it's been awhile. I'm still waiting for my bodies to get refinished. Call me if you need to but I think that's what you need to do.-Dave 707-953-3163[This message was edited by Dave Zirbel on 04 March 2006 at 05:28 PM.] Russ-your package is on the way! al marcus is the man who recognizes how to properly combine the 9th and 6th tunings in the same key on a 10 and 12 string guitar. i have made the splits work to do double duty on my 12 string with a preference for the 9th side but al's theory is on the mark and is very similar to pete's approach. just transpose his 10 string e 6/9 to b to see[This message was edited by ebb on 04 March 2006 at 05:55 PM.] |

Which change do you think is the least used on the Sneaky Pete 8 string tuning by Pete or anyone else using it? I have 8 pedals on my 1000.Thanks, Dave |

Dave, it's the 9th pedal. He just uses it as a reference point for his foot and almost never plays it. |
