The nice Mullen folks have it at the convention? Anyone try it? Reactions? Comparison between it and RP and pre-RP models?

Don't know John, maybe noone tried it. I know the ones out there are being accepted with flying colors. We built Tim Sergent a new one and he loves it. Not sure who all got to try them, pretty busy weekend.

I've heard it and it's the steel that i am saving my $$ to get. IMHO , the tone is the closest i've heard to the '75 p/p that I once owned. I guess we all know how nice and soft the Mullen plays. At this years Convention, i also heard other steels that sounded good , but the Mullen with the new upgrades is what caught my ear. Yep, i own an '03 Mullen and i hope to own a G2 when they become available.

Mike Mantey, I learned that you're building one for my buddy Larry Petree in Bakersfield. I'm definitely paying him a vist when he gets it!

Please send my well wishes to Dixie, too, hope she mends well and quickly.

Can the Mullen folks give us an idea what a new G2 is gonna cost? I know you can't give an exact figure here on the forum, but maybe just tell us (about) how much more than a new RP the G2 will be?

Here are some of the new features which is what is on my new G2 Prototype.

Split tuning in the changer

Super Precision changers (shortest travel and accuracy of any other Changer)

Wide Mount Pickups
Special Mullen Single coil pickups

Changes have been made to neck and body (which is the main factors of the new tone)

Here again guys, these are some of the current changes that are featured on the new Mullen guitar that I have, the final G2 will
have tons more awesome features. So stay tuned!

I played the G2 guitar in St. Louis this year, and it has without question, the smoothest and fastest action of ANY guitar that I have ever played! Also, the tone and sustain on this guitar is right up there with the best of them, and in many cases, surpasses others.

Mullen has made great strides in making improvements, and as with any guitar builder, it has taken many years to find and implement what is the best of everything a player could want, and I personally think they have done that. I believe you will agree with me once you try one of these guitars yourself. Mullen is breaking new ground here that I think others will want to follow.

Stay tuned guys! I think you're in for a real treat that you will find as almost unbelievable when you sit down to a new Mullen. They are absolutely incredible, and in many ways.

My suggestion, don't run out and buy anything right away until you've tried the new Mullen guitars. I think you will be very glad you did!!

Sounds fab, Danny, thanks for the additional info. When will the production guitars be available? What other features are likely to be added?

Oh, and did I mention that gauged rollers ought to be a standard feature on such a wonderful guitar? I did? Dang.

Mullen and Co., I hope you have them ready to show at Mesa, AZ in January...but I'd rather have you take whatever time it requires to nail it, rather than slap anything together in too much of a hurry. You go!

John. I don't have info yet as to exactly when the G2 production models will be available, but my guess is that they probably will be available in time for the Messa, Arizona show. If they are, then I'll most likely be playing one there. I really liked the G2 Prototype I played in St. Louis! This guitar played and sounded so good, that it is hard to imagine it could be any better than this! Rest assured though John, it definately will be, and your suggestion for gauged rollers is a very good one. I am assuming you are referring to the wound strings?

I don't really know enough about the technical stuff to comment, all I know is when I tried one in Dallas in March, I fell in love with the comfort, action, looks, and mostly the tone, and knew it was the one I wanted. It seems to sound better all the time.

To Danny:
I hope you're playing the final model by Mesa, that'd be fabulous.

Yes, the gauged rollers would be a modest improvement for 10-string necks, but imho, a necessity on 12-strings. My D-12 suffers serious bar chatter in the lowest frets. Though I've lobbed this suggestion at Del and Mike several times, it might help if they here it from more players.

See ya in Mesa, DH!
