I just got a Mullen D10 a couple weeks ago with 2 10-1's, and my jury is still out. Having played single coils for 27 years, it's quite a change. The sustain is incredible, yet my old ears kinda miss that high end sparkle. I do really like them, though, and it probably has a lot to do with having a steel with the quality of a Mullen. I'm gonna try them with the old Webb this weekend.

Gary the G.L. 10-1 is a good choice and match for the Rains but I'm an G.L. E-66 man myself.

I had a friend try and talk me into a single coil for my Rains, NO WAY... The 10-1 will stay.

I just dropped a 10-1 into my push-pull the other day, and I'm seriously loving it. Great sounding pickup. Very clear, not too crispy, rich mids, pretty flattering tone in general. I really like what it does to the lower wound strings. Bobbe Seymour always said that pickup sounds great in a push/pull. And hey, they sure worked for Jimmy Day in his later years.

I like the 10-1's with a Rains. I also like the PF-II's at 20,000 ohms.

I installed a 12-1 in my Mullen 12-stringer and it sounds great. Had to do a little different tweaking on the Fender Steel King, but that's no big deal. That's why they come with knobs.

David, Did you change to the 10-1s from the GFI-II pickups, and if so, how would you describe the difference in tone?

Brad, Are you saying that the pickups in Jimmy Day's Mullen were 10-1s? How did you learn this?

Brint, my GFI had E-66's when I bought it and they sounded a bit thin for my taste. The 10-1's added a lot of depth and great mids. The highs are also clear without being too brite.

Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to use the GFI II pickups, so I can give you no opinion on the difference in tone.

The magnets are much bigger and i seem to have a fuller sound with the ''Truetone '' ,then again we are just giving our opinions huh ? G.P.

Brint.

I'm not sure where I originally learned that Jimmy Day used the 10-1 in his Mullen Blue Darlins. Maybe Mr. Seymour can verify this as they worked very closely on a recording together.

How do I know that a George l's 10 is a Georgle l's 10. It just says george l's on the top in gold. Is there a number underneath?

I replaced the old lipstick pickup on my Morrell Little Roy Wiggins lapsteel with GL 10-1 and it improved the sound noticeably(tip from Bobbe Seymour on the SGF). I think I still prefer a single coil sound for the lap but guess this would be nice on the C6 neck of my Mullen D-10 pedal steel. I may try that experiment.....suggestions?

The 10-1 will have no model on it, only the George L logo in gold as you described. The E-66, PF-I, PF-II, etc. have the model on the top along with the logo. You indeed do have a 10-1.

I have the 10-1 on my Pre BCT Carter. I
played it on a live TV show here in North
Mississippi on Friday Morning. The playback
blew me away. I had even considered getting
rid of the Carter after trying another guitar. Not a Chance.
