Anyone have an idea how Norm Hamlett pulls off the intro part on this tune? |

If it's the Merle Haggard version, I almost positive that's a 6 string guitar, not a pedal steel. That's how I play it.------------------

- P L E A S E LET ME KNOW!! :-)I believe Norm has done it on a few recording versions of Mama Tried. I play it on Pedal Steel and twin it with the lead player.

I'll give these a try, thanks.I did see Merle last spring out in CA, at the CrazyHorse. Norm played the 2nd 1/2 of the intro, and the whole lead break. I suppose I could've asked him then, but I didn't. rgds,

That was James Burton's signature kick-off to the recorded version of "Mama Tried" done on a Telecaster, I believe.RB |

I think that that was Roy Nichols.James played on Working Man's Blues and Bottle Let Me Down and a few others but I don't think he played on Mama Tried. I may be wrong. Also, Phil Baugh played on Swingin' Doors. WHO..can say for sure?? ------------------
