thanks for posting the link above..IF you take a song like RT in
it's raw simplicity, it is very easy to play the melody lines. The melody lines come directly out of the chord positions.
here is a simple dicussion..no tab..even though this is the TAB section !
AB pedals 10th fret stings 4,5 6 G chord
AF lever 11th fret strings 4,5,6 C chord
AB pedals 10th fret strings 4,5,6 G chord
Eb lever fret 8 strings 8,6,5 E minor chord
no peds 10th fret strings 8,6,5 D chord
AB pedals 10th fret strings 8,6,5 G chord
Here, the melody comes from different triads of the root chords, like most tunes.
the real important thing about playing these types of songs is a total understanding of the chord chart and being able to apply different positions of the chords on the fly.
We must REALLY know and have in auto pilot all of our basic chord forms, Open, AB, A, AF, Eb lever etc...
IF we spend time with the basic chord progressions and play them from different positions of the fretboard , you will hear the melody lines coming right out at you.
When we play RT on the gigs, and we do..I stay with the melody more often than not...usually our Tele boy sets the pace with solo's and I bring it back home with the melody lines...
I'm just a hack that knows his limitations.
Forget the solo's, get the melody lines down pat..without them we can't even play the song with a band ! I learned this the hard way...
