Stephen, they have strap-on drool guards that attach to your chin and protect your keyboard. I think they were originally designed for porn buffs. Just do a Google search for "strap-on" . .
The hat I got on eBay - the seller is "mycimarronsky" He has 'em in all shapes and sizes, very reasonable prices too. Tell him rockin_rical sent you. [This message was edited by Rick Alexander on 03 January 2005 at 07:52 AM.]

Thanks for your replies regarding the push button selectors. I for one never cared for them. If needed to jump necks its a real drag. If you leave a few necks on you lose some gain.Years back I told Leo Fender I didnt care for the push button switches,he dis agreed. I showed him why I didnt care for them. He gave it some thought and somehow went to the blade type switch. Noel Boggs didnt care for the push button arrangement either and supported my feelings. However Noel did keep all necks open when he played. I couldnt use that setup on a recording date because of the click noise. Besides that how can you press the push button with your thumb when you have your thumb pick on? As far as the design. It was Leo Fender who designed those push button switches and he wouldn't stop. Leo Fender's theory was waste not want not. There is an article in Guitar Player dated 1988 where Richard Smith a friend of mine wrote a column titled "Rare Bird" with a photo of a quad Fender and the history behind that four neck guitar. The article wss written as an interveiw with myself regarding this same subject. There are copies available I beleive from Guitar Player. Joe Satriani's picture is on the front cover. I know for one that Dave Van Allen has that copy and had cut the page from the magazine and carried it in his wallet for years before he and I were able to meet and become friends. Perhaps if Dave see's this he can somehow copy and paste the article I dont know. So far as a book? Dont ask, I have had a book underway for a few years now but I was unable to concentrate due to my late wife's health issue. I promised her shortly before she passed that I would spend my time to finish that book if it were the last thing I would do in my lifetime. The Book will be titled "The Last Fender Guitar". I will post a link to a thread I strated a few years ago regarding this same book, but I was side tracked. This time I'm going to make certain I do it. I promised her that I would get a cd of the "Hot Club Of America" done and I did with the help of a number of Forumites who kept after me to do so. At least she was able to see that happen. Now I will continue with the book on my life as a Fender salesman. Richard Smith encouraged me to tell the stories that have never been told before. I think you will enjoy it when I'm finished. Rick and Ron...thank you for your comments I do appreciate them. BTW It was John Tipka of Reynoldsburg Ohio who repaired my quad's push buttons. I drove from NY to John's home while he repaired the problem. PS Rick..I dig the hat as well. |

Yes - great news about the book - and the title rocks! So appropriate. Jody, speaking of "Hot Club of America" - are there any copies currently available? I can't believe you only ordered 100 copies at first - talk about underestimating your demographic!! I know the ordering info is somewhere, but could you please post it on this thread?

Rick,Ditto on the "Hot Club of America" request. My friends tell me I'm older that dirt! That's because I told them stories about Arthur Godfrey...I am 62 to be exact, I think...Anyway, back to Mr. Godfrey, when I was a young teenager, I used to watch the AM Arthur Godfrey show, live from Hawaii, CBS I believe. I had three interest's in Arthur Godfrey: 1. I was entranced by the steel guitar. 2. Couldn't get enough of the Island's beauty. 3. My keen interest in Aviation as Mr. Godfrey was a pilot. He had a DC3 as I understand it. Story is, he had a hot temper and buzzed the Tower at Teterboro Airport because he was instructed to go around for another landing. While I never got to hear a "Hawaii Calls" broadcast, I was able, back then, to get an album of all Steel Guitar recorded by that show. Another inspiration for me with the Steelguitar. I wonder if Jody can comment on Mr. Arthur Godfrey or whatever else pleases him. Please forgive my ignorance. TX rgds, Ron PS: Rick, that's a neat hat....would work well in the Hawaii Sun, but, not in the NJ Snow!!! True story regarding Godfrey buzzing the tower at Teterboro airport. Godfrey loved steel guitars amd the people who played them.More to follow. Rick,,you would have made one heck of a Fender salesman...Sam Marshall are you watching? This is a dedicated Fender guy Sam, check Rick out. edited to ask Sam to get a hat thats happening like Rick wears. forget those three piece Brooks Brothers suits and get a hat. Jody, that's the nicest thing anybody who isn't a chick ever said to me. Well, when I'm not playing them I love taking pics of guitars, especially Fender Steels - and I love making zippy 3D logos too. Plus, any conversation I'm in immediately turns to Fender Steels - so, yeah . . . Those are my qualifications! |

You would make one heck of a PR man for Fender. What am I saying you are Fenders PR man right here Rick. look at what you started here. Where is Larry Moudy?? Sam get this kid,he knows more than I do. Larry is a friend and went from a road rep to executive VP. Talented and brilliant fellow along with Don Johnston another from the school of hard knocks. Like myself except my head is wood. Swamp ash. I sustain better. They are a fine group and carry the tradition of Fender originals...I know where LF hid the swamp ash Donald. My suggestion is that all Fender guys on this Forum buy a hat like Rick Its a happening kind of thing. Perhaps Sam can convince CEO and President Bill Schultz to include Ricks hat into the Fender line of accessories. Who needs those adjustable baseball caps. Get with the program..Its Happening here. So far as working for a company and I dont care which one..its the old story the right place at the right time. You know more than most. Jody, I have 2 HD130 2-12 Combos from the 70s (with the tube preamp) and one from the 80s with the solid state preamp. One of the 70s models I bought in '78 and the other two - you guessed it - eBay! The 70's Combos have been totally restored, refurbished, retubed (NOS Phillips), recapped, and recovered in blonde tolex with oxblood grill cloth. And here they are: The 80s amp has been retubed and recapped also, but otherwise left in its original state. I guess I need to take a pic of it . .

Jody, Rick,You guy's are unbelievable, what a dream team!!!! Jody, Yes, the Lou Rose store is still there!! Actually, they are on Rt. 27, Edison, NJ. They are really professional compared to Sam Ash up the road. I recently got a Steelbar from them.....I primarily go there to see my HS (class of 61) Buddy, Dennis Kager, regular guitar player. He worked for Ampeg years ago. Dennis has a thriving Amp repair store, he leases space behind the Lou Rose store and is the local Fender rep. He has been a great help to me, tuned up my Concert Amp recently. I'll see what I can find out about Tony & Lou from Dennis. I can't believe this.....If you ever come our way, our lights on for you. Rick, Man, what a Stringmaster you just posted!!!!I didn't even have time to get a ticket...Geez.....I'll keep the light on for you too.....TX Rgds, Ron ------------------ "55" Stringmaster D8,"59" Stringmaster D6 "67" Telecaster, "60"Fender Concert Amp 4-10's

Wow what guitars..Great Music Man amps that really kick butt. Nice receovering job there Rick. That 12Ax7 that was capped opens a can of worms, many feel that by Leo doing that gave the amp a harder sound. I own 2 of them 1 410HD 150 and 1 212HD 150 with Altec Lansing speakers. Both are capped and in my opinion sound great. You are too much. I like that walnut s/master wow..what a collection. As for Lou Rose..say hi to Dennis for me, I have known Dennis since the early days of Fender during the CBS regime. Super guy and a great technician tell him I said hello. This is a great thread, thanks for letting me particpate. Page Dave Van Allen someone. OK my Hot Club Of America Cd's are for sale for $15.00 per cd plus $3.00 for shipping. A bonus cd is available live off the tv show Arthur Godfreys talent Scouts recorded 2/7/55 and have a few other shows I did with Godfrey and his friends. Thats $5.00 so the complete package is $23.00 but you donr have to take the Godfrey show if you dont want it.. Its the FEnder sound when I was young and my blonde baby was a pup. I have the same guitar and it still does what all Fender guitars do, break glass and vibrate the walls. If you want to order a money order will be fine. Mail to me at PO Box 548 Milford PA 18337 and I'll get them out pronto. Thanks I appreciate it. |

Jody, I want 2 copies of the "Hot Club" CD and the Arthur Godfrey CD. I think that comes to $38 or $39 - I'll make it an even $40 just to make sure. That will be in the mail pronto! I'll bet you are going to get a bunch of orders in the next few days! It might not go platinum, but it's sure to go "pewter" (1,000 copies) The thing I like about the 12AX7 pre is that no 2 are alike - switch the preamp tube and you have a "new" amp. I keep a few on hand so that when one starts fading I have several "sonic options".
The later models are fine though - you're right, a harder sound. ------------------------------------------- Jody, send me an email when you have a moment - I have something else to show you . . rick@rickalexander.com I won't give it to anyone. Oh, and . . .

Black Rajahs were $2.50 in 1957 - the one in the middle is like new. It was still in the box in the case when I got the '57 T8 Stringmaster. I used it for a while - it has a real nice feel, but it's just a little too long and the nose is just a little too flat. About the 100th time I dropped it on my foot while attempting to execute a reverse to a forward slant, I thought maybe I should try something different . . Now I mostly use Jim Burden hard chrome bullet bars. I've pretty much tried 'em all and they're the best. Jim makes them any size you want. I tried almost every size there is before I settled on 2 3/4" X 3/4".
