You guys are killin' me!!
I give! Uncle!
Before I spend waaaay too much on a 24.5" double neck does anybody have such a beast available or know where to find one?

Is $1300 too much to spend on one right now?

I have G-A-S syndrome bad and I'm going to have to sell off a bunch of toys after I do this, but I just can't help myself. They are just too cool!

Paul, here's a 57 Stringmaster D8 They don't specify, but it looks like a 24 1/2" scale. The asking price is a bit higher than the amount you mentioned . .

Here's a Deluxe 8 single neck "Stringmaster" for considerably less . .

Here's a Blonde Stringmaster D8 - it's a beater, but the price is low . .

Somebody sent me this pic of a Deluxe 8 a while back. Even though it wasn't offically named a Stringmaster by Fender it essentially is one so I thought it should go here . .

Rick,

Thank's for the pic's of the walnut D6 Stringmaster. Brings back memories of my repainted (ebony) "59" D6. Unfortunately, the Walnut really showed up ding's and scracthes. No matter, it still look's great!

I wonder how many D6's were made? I guess we'll never know.

All these stringmaster photos coming in from everybody are really great to see. TX

Jody, is that 2100 D6's or all of them?
I'm glad this came up, because I always wondered what the total number of Stringmasters is. Inquiring minds want to know . .

Rick
I had a ledger that belonged to the late Forrest White. Forrest was Leo Fender's right arm. Forrest gave me the ledger after
MusicMan closed its doors. Mrs White asked me
if she could have the ledger back for her memories of her late husband,to which I agreed. From what was in the ledger which was
pre CBS there were 2100 dual six guitars produced a total for domestic and export sales.I had thought many more were produced but that was the number and Forrest knew his math.

Most had serial numbers and the source of who and where all merchanise was sold and shipped. Forrest White was a brilliant man but he never received the credit that was due him and he was bitter and wrote the book
"Fender The Inside Story" of which most all of his comments were on the money. So I would have to take the fact that if Forrest kept records of all production, that total I gave has to be accurate.

Has Fender contacted you yet to head up the steel guitar R&D??

Be well my friend. You have to be one of the finest Fender boosters ever.Fender should be happy to have someone like yourself plugging away. I'll e mail Sam Marshall and ask him to take a look.

Hey Sam..you hearing me? Can you Hear me now?
later my Tweed friend. edited,,,Rick said... case you want to torture your neighbors...too late I have already done a musical version of Charles Manson on my neighbors.

I'm still waiting for the call Jody. But they'll have to understand - if they want me, they have to enlist you as a highly paid Consultant (on your own time) with stock options, full fringe benefits, and a solid gold tone bar.

Yeah Right
I have about as much of a chance of doing a replay of "On Golden Pond" playing the role
of Henry Fonda.

This is a great thread. All we need now is the needle to thread the seam for the Stringmaster guitars to make a comeback.

You will get the call..but I dont know what they will call you.

Be well and I'm looking forward to hearing your CD with Fender Loving Care.

You will find that the HotClub has cooled down after all these years. But the sound of Fender will always be there.

Sam,,can you hear me now? man what a tough
sell Sam is. meanwhile bOb see's this thread and is making an appointment for us to see a "shrink". Get on line guys, there are many of us who qualify for a "shrinking".

Jody - so then, what would be the total number of all Stringmasters ever made??

If we know that number - and then we subtract the number of Stringmasters parted out to rob their tuners because you can't get replacements - we'll know how many Stringmasters there are today.

Then if we subtract the number of Stringmasters still being played by actual Steel Guitar Players, we'll know how many Stringmasters are hanging on Collectors'Walls (MIA)

Then if we multiply that number by the percentage increase in world population since 1970 and add to that the number of steelers who have posted in this thread - we'll know how many NEW STRINGMASTERS would sell in the first year of production. I'm guessing about 6,000 to 7,000 but that could be a bit light because the number of New Steelers appears to be increasing exponentially . .

Plus, we didn't count me in that equation - I'd buy one for sure, as long as it's made from the hidden swamp ash cache . . .

I think we are doing a duo here...everyone is tired out. I'll have to calculate your proposal and present it to those in command.I think you have something there..something,but I dont know what. Let me think about it for a day and I'll try to come up with a formal presentation. I'll wear my three piece suit and wing tip shoes to make an impression.

That's not really so far-fetched. The script would have to be re-written to accomodate numerous steel jams and workshops, peppered with anecdotes from Fender's glory days - but I think it might just work!

Had the "55" D8 pushbutton out to work last night. The sound & tone on that steel is just incredible. And, it's just about 50 years old (November 05)!!!! Not a thing, other than changing strings, has ever been done to it. What workhorse's the Fender products of that era, turned out to be.

We all know that there are a lot of features on these old Fender Stringmaster's. But to me, the best feature is the Blend tone control. I am not aware of any other electric guitar, steel or straight, that has this Blend Tone Control. What a difference it makes.....

Jody, thank you for the information on the number of D6's produced by Fender. I didn't think anyone would know, but you did it. Your are truly the repository of Fender information. Yes, you are The Knight of Fender Tweed. I'm sure it was and more fun than being a Jeti Knight for Starwars!!

While I thought 2100 D6's produced by Fender was high, the more I think about it, that's not a lot. When you consider they went out to both the US and the International markets & world markets X 40-50 years, Geez, it's amazing there are any left.

Soooo, Knight of Fender Tweed Cases, if I may be so bold as to pose a "Stupid Question", why would/did the Fender Marketing Dept (or Leo) even bother to produce Stringmaster D6's??? Especially, when they were tooled up, I assume, for D8's at (for want of a better word) the factory. And which came first, (egg vs. chicken) the 6's or the 8's? What could have drove Fender to do this? Sorry, this Serf is just curious about Fender history.

As always, thank you for your help. TX
rgds,
Ron

The 2100 D-6's probably would not even fill the pipeline of one per dealer today. There are Fender dealers everywhere wheras back in Jody's day there were about one per city.

The Dual Six Professional model with a 22/1/2 scale neck retailed at $215.00 & legs
$37.50 case $43.50...dealer cost deduct 50% off the retail above and thats the final cost to dealer. These were available in blonde or dark finish.

If a dealer ordered over 200 LBS of merchandise Fender would pick up the shipping

You figure the final cost I dont have a calculator dont tell anyone I disclosed these prices to you OK?

Very true, but a different world where dealers were loyal and worked with their customers with problems etc,,not like the mega stores where everyone is too busy to handle a customer and treat him or her the way a customer should be treated.

Jody, do you remember why Fender made D6's?

Sure..less expensive and cover all the bases.
And for students whose teacher didnt teach 8 string guitar. Many Hawaiians back then took the last two strings off of a dual stringmaster and played on 6 strings. Why? who knows. Steel players are very WEIRD.

Hey..I dont know the answers to all these questions..what do you think I am anyhow?

Another unanswered question..Why did Leo design the Fender "Marauder"? a Strat type guitar where the pickups were located under the pickguard and you couldnt see anything but the pickguard. Why?? I dont know. It sounded great but looked very strange.

Look at yourself in the mirror..do you think you look weird? I do..and its confirmed that I am really a weirdo. Speaking of weird but nice..where is HOWARD R.?? Howard where are you.

Little story here. Years ago, I was a Steward on Eastern Airlines, working a trip from Baltimore to Atlanta and Lee Greenwood got on. Not because of him, I always tried to make people feel comfortable with corny but funny annoucements before takeoff. Started out with, "Your Flight Attendant names are Bonnie, Bubbles & Co-Co & my name is Rawhide" With that Lee busrt out with the loudest laugh of all....I did a few more corny lines and later Lee asked me if I had been in show-biz, because nobody did what I did......I told him, I was a steelguitar player, With that, Lee said loudly, and in a fun way for all to hear...."I knew it, I knew it..all you steelguitar players are weird. Never met one who was normal"....Now coming from Lee Greenwood, that made my day....he was just great the rest of the way, and invited me to a comp. show in NJ (never made it). So Knight of Fender Tweed, you made my day, I am very honored and pleased we entertain you at this time in your life.....so there, get the book goin and thanks for giving us the smiles.....TX

Now that's the Stringmaster I'm talkin' about, Jody!

Incidentally guys, the bass player if I'm not mistaken is Zeb Carver, Jody's Pop. He's also the man who really co-wrote Blue Christmas, although his name was deleted from the credits by unscrupulous people whose names we won't mention here (unless Jody wants to)

The other two fellers are Tommy on Accordian and Roy on Guitar. Jody sure looks like he means business!
