That photo was taken at the ISGC back in 1988
From Left to right is Johnny Pell a fine singer and a great bass player. Rick Martinez from Higgins Texas,Myself,,Speedy West, and Hank Pell a great steel player who doubles on fiddle and does vocals. They call themselves "The Texas Panhandle Band" they do well back east. Great sounding group and a nice bunch of guys. We were not playing in St.Louis as a group. I did the ISGC for Scotty that year and we wanted Speedy to take a picture with us.

The Steel guitar world lost a fine guy and a great steel player when Speedy passed a few years back.

I look like a combination of Boris Karloff and Jimmy Durante on that plaque...my dammed nose aint that big,,,Tom Bradshaw was supposed to give me a nose job but he didnt keep his promise Hey Tom...you made my nose too big.

Rick you dont want to be like me when you grow up,,Im not grown up yet either.

Rick,

Cool "photo's" & music, real Is that you singin...preeeety good!!

Jody, Man that plaque is really great!! A wonderful recognition & honour for your life's work from your collegues.

But, if your of mind, you can still swing over to Jersey, we have "five & dime" & general store's over here...

Rick, thank's for all these photo's.

Enjoyed the picture of the woods, didn't know Big Foot played Fender steel.

Actually, that's a great shot of Jody and his Q8. Man, those Q8's are huge, must weigh 60 lbs. or more. Need to hire some groupies? Jody, does that steel go hunting with you? If not, Rick could loan you his sleek "Attact Fender D8".

The group photo speak's for itself. The story's you have must be incalculable.

Yeah, $1600, for the D8 is about right. Don't think it'll make it to $1750 like the D8 did a few weeks ago. But you never know.

Looking forward to the CD's. Even locked up the big Cat to keep him from going after the postman.

Rick, Ron Victoria spoke very highly of you over the weekend. He really appreciated your help.

I'll try Dennis Kager today, TX

Ron

If anybody needs new legs for their Stringmaster (or any other steel), Don Burrows is the man to contact. wingingit@adelphia.net

I just received a new set of Stringmaster legs from Don, and they are PERFECTO! His prices are reasonable - and I didn't have to wait long at all!
Thank you Don - you're one of the good guys!

I should add that Don is now Herb Remington's new leg man. That's right - he's building the legs for Remington Steelmasters. Congrats Don!

Well, everybody else must have been at lunch when it closed, because there wasn't anybody but me there in the final hours. It was actually advertized in Vintage Guitar for a month before he decided to put it on ebay. It sat there in VG for $1399, so I figured I wouldn't bid any more than that if I had to.

I'll let you all know how it turns out when I finally get delivery of it.It's coming from Andys Guitars in Florida.
Does it sound like I got an OK deal on that thing? (Not that it matters now after the fact...)

Just a little wrist trauma. It hurts if I push on anything like closing a door etc., but I can lift things just fine. It helps to have that brace on, plus it's a cool fashion statement . .

I now deeply regret punching that rhino.

Me too Dan, it's just a timeless classic. I only do 2 or 3 non-originals in my show, and that has to be one. Of course, "Sleepwalk" and "Remington Ride" are the other two . .

Well, my new 55 D8 actually showed up on the 21st, which was OK, since I was home to get it.
Andy's Guitars in Florida treated me right. Tweed case (missing one of the latches, but oh well). Pretty scratched up, but I expected that from the fotoz. All parts are there 100%. New strings (A6 and E7 for now - still learning). WOW! I never thought closer together strings would be easier to play...
I popped the near tuner out and there was the signature, just like our hero said. "Danny S 55". Cool! Here are links to some photos.
New Addition to the Crowd.

Thanks again for all the encouragement and inspiration, guys. This was the right way to go.

Very nice Paul - congratulations! A few scratches do not undermine the beauty of a Stringmaster. It's been places, done things, played a few tunes no doubt. If it could only talk . .

E7 and A6 are excellent tunings to put on it. From these tunings you can easily retune to several very useful tunings.

Those are 2 of the 3 tunings I have on my 57 T8, which is my main Steel.

Rick - Thanks for the link to the tunings. I will check them out. I am thinking about sticking the Don Helms tunings in my Magnatone, since it is now freed up as an experimental subject. But I think I need to concentrate in the near future on just figuring out A6 more.
Well, thanks again Rick and everybody else. You guys make the steel guitar learning thing way easier than trying to go it alone.

And thanks of course to Jody, too. Hope you get back on line real quick. I've gotta scramble and get my copy of HCOA before they're all gone.
